Knees hurt?! What about your back :P
  2. looking for a gearbox for a 96 V4 help

    92, 93, 95, 96 & Sonett Workshop- Vintage Models
gearbox Aeroman: I know of a guy in Wisconsin, USA, who has a barnful of Sonetts, maybe 50 of them. I have bought two gearboxes from him over the years. The Sonett has a taller pinion gear, which I think is better in the 96 than the stock gear - gets you 5 mph faster than indicated at 60...
  3. Is driving a saab, a fun driving experience - new the them

    C900 Workshop
What a C900 love-fest! :D Among the many characteristics that set it apart, I think one the most important is driver position in the cabin. Just the right height, everything close at hand, the short steering column with the dash close behind it, great seats, great vision out. Just a very...
  4. Front sway bar question

    C900 Workshop
sway bar I have an 82 900T with a sway bar, and an 86 900S without. The 82 is now a parts car in my yard. Although the 86 is very competent going around corners, the 82 leaned less and felt like it could be thrown around more. Is it possible to put the 82's sway bar in the 86?
  5. Why is my Saab so slow?!

    C900 Workshop
speed Once had my 86 900s to 170kph in 4th, around 5500rpm, I think - ran out of room before I could go to 5th. Sometime I'd like to see if 5th would go faster. Hard to find a place to do it around here.
  6. tyres sizes for standard wheels

    C900 Workshop
tire size I'm using Yoko 205/60/15 on my 86 900s. Normally seem fine, but when I carry passengers in the rear, they will occasionally contact the body. Think I'll go to 195's next time.
  7. ignition timing

    C900 Workshop
Thanks for your inputs. I think FloFlo is onto it - control of timing is electronic, not through a vacuum unit or by weights. My n/a 16v has no APC unit, but it has an EZK unit for preignition control. I hooked up the timing gun again to take another look. It's right on 14 degrees btc at...
  8. ignition timing

    C900 Workshop
So, what changes the ignition timing when the engine is running fast?! Maybe the EZK unit?
  9. Converting 96 brakes

    92, 93, 95, 96 & Sonett Workshop- Vintage Models
V4 brakes Don't know about such a conversion, but I have a 1969 Motor Trend road test on a 95, and they got a 60-0 stopping distance of 109 feet! Can't improve much on that. :D
  10. ignition timing

    C900 Workshop
My 86 900s runs fine, but I took Bentley's recommendation to check the timing occasionally. I find that at idle it's at 14 degrees btc, but when I run the engine up to 2K rpm or so, it remains at 14 degrees. Is this normal? This is a 16v with a EZK control unit, and according to Bentley, it...
  11. Another addition to my "Saab Stories"

    92, 93, 95, 96 & Sonett Workshop- Vintage Models
long saab story I'll take the troybuilt. :P
  12. Project Cruiser V4 (pics and vids inside)

    92, 93, 95, 96 & Sonett Workshop- Vintage Models
Looks great! We shouldn't judge the wing - maybe it's needed to hold her down. What's under the bonnet?
  13. A favour

    92, 93, 95, 96 & Sonett Workshop- Vintage Models
V4 Stuart: I know this is not what you had in mind, but I recall a road test on the 1969 Saab 95 by Motor Trend, April 1969 issue. Really fun to read! I used to have a copy, but can't find it now. I bought that model in September 1969 for $2750. Eric
  14. no Bentley 8-valve manuals anywhere

    C900 Workshop
Bentley manual I have a Bentley Saab 900 8 valve official service manual 1981-1988. $30 plus postage. I'm finished with it, because I'm finished with my 82 900T (sits out in back without a trans). I would take a Bentley manual for my 86 900S 16V in trade for the 8V manual.
  15. Front wheel bearing replacement???

    C900 Workshop
Marc: I had the same symptoms, although it was obvious that it was the left side. I bought a new bearing, but ended up taking a whole steering hub with a bearing in it from another 900 (parts car), and replacing the hub in my car - works fine and a whole lot cheaper and easier to change. I'll...
  16. How much oil?

    92, 93, 95, 96 & Sonett Workshop- Vintage Models
Toenis: The V4 engine oil capacity, including the new filter, is 3.3 liters, according to my owner's manual. Seems like the oil filters we get these days may be bigger than the original ones, because I put 4 quarts in without over-filling. That's about 3.8 liters. Eric
  17. 2000-3000 rpm acceleration hole at '89 900 16V

    C900 Workshop
I changed the AMM in my engine for other reasons, and found that the slight flat spot at 3500 rpm disappeared. I didn't have a check engine light.
  18. SAAB Hood Emblem Warrantied For Life?

    C900 Workshop
Yeah, I heard they go faster with the new emblems.
  19. Uh oh - clunk

    C900 Workshop
distributer cap Keith is right. I've seen it happen. Gotta fix the front mount to tie the engine down, then see what other damage is done.
  20. alternator light

    C900 Workshop
Installed an almost new voltage regulator from my 82 900T 8V parts car. Voila! Light out. Idle still fast. Thanks for your help, guys. Eric
