  1. Update on owning a 9-3 the past year & 8 months

    9-3 Sedan, Cabrio '04+, Combi, 9-3X Workshop
Hey all! Wanted to post an update on my experience owning my Saab thus far, some stats on milage/fuel economy, and what's next for me. '07 9-3 SS 6spd Manual. -Bought in August at 56k miles -Currently have 72k miles trouble free ;ol; Primary Use: Weekend car and road trips (NOT daily...

I'm back! Hey all! Been awhile since I've been around here but that's mainly because I have nothing but good news to report! I made it though another winter here in NC with no issues. Now admittedly, winters here aren't the most brutal things around, and my 9-3 isn't a daily driver, but I...
  3. Huh? Alternator for FWD is diff than XWD? what?

    9-3 Sedan, Cabrio '04+, Combi, 9-3X Workshop
Glad to see another Saaber on the boards here in Charlotte. I've had bad luck with that Volvo/Saab dealer. Tried to call them multiple times using the numbers on their site, never to get a response. What are your thoughts on them? If you're looking for an indie in the future, Swedish Garage...

Man, your case is especially a bummer due to your build date of 09/06. Before you, I don't think we had had a confirmed intake valve issue on any car built before 05/07 or something like that. The earlier build date means there's a possibility of many more owners potentially being affected. If...

Haven't seen any user reported results, but the recommended from the service bulletin (post #1 in thread) is the Biopower P/N. Good luck.

Thanks for reporting, but this sounds like a different issue. The issue at hand is worn intake valves causing them to not seat properly. The known TSB from SPNA is regarding intake valves only. If your issue was first and foremost worn/bent exhaust valves, something else was up. Since we...
  7. Fuel gauge problems

    9-3 Sedan, Cabrio '04+, Combi, 9-3X Workshop
How do these things fail? I filled up the tank completely, and for some reason I thought it was showing a bit lower than completely full. BUT, it did hold it's reading steady. I've driven about 50 miles, and the needle still shows 90%, but DTE is UP to 558 mi. :o Never seen this before. I...
  8. Oil Change Problem

    9-3 Sedan, Cabrio '04+, Combi, 9-3X Workshop
I've used the "German" Castrol Full Syn European Formula 0W-30 for my two oil changes. Amazon Search: German Castrol Syntec (06244) 0W-30. Not cheap, but M1 Euro 0W-40 wasn't stocked at my local WalMart and Advance Auto wanted nearly $10/quart for the stuff. ;oops: Luckily, my WalMart now...
  9. Koni FSD + Aero Springs on 2.0T

    9-3 Sedan, Cabrio '04+, Combi, 9-3X Workshop
Something interesting to note. The new 2015 Jeep Renegade will be using Koni FSDs STOCK from the factory. Sounded good at the time, but after reading this horror story, I'm not so sure. :o

Second! Would love to get some Part #'s or something a bit more concrete about what to look for to find some of these.
  11. Bleeding brakes on manual trans Aero

    9-3 Sedan, Cabrio '04+, Combi, 9-3X Workshop
I did the exact same thing with my 2.0T manual. Thought I was keeping the sucker topped off just fine and ended up pulling air through the whole clutch system. The wall in the resivior is there so that if you spring a leak in either system (brakes or clutch), you only lose one system, not...

I am leaning that way as well. Unfortunately, with spring (allegedly) around the corner, I doubt we'll hear much more on the issue until next October/November, since ambient temps play a role in when the symptoms are noticeable.

Pretty sure you need to bump down 1 forum. This is 03 and up.

  15. Koni FSD + Aero Springs on 2.0T

    9-3 Sedan, Cabrio '04+, Combi, 9-3X Workshop
This is a bummer, for sure. So koni yellows are more about performance, so what's your suggestion for comfortable dampers?
  16. Koni FSD + Aero Springs on 2.0T

    9-3 Sedan, Cabrio '04+, Combi, 9-3X Workshop
Yikes, interesting to know. Any chance you have an alternative damper set to recommend for the 99%/1% road/autocross use case? Bilstein?

You also went to a dealer, correct? Sounds like two data points from two different areas of the U.S. that were quoted ~$3,000 from a dealer. Sounds like finding a decent indie shop willing and capable of doing the repair could be saving serious $$$ regardless of the individual dealer.
  18. Koni FSD + Aero Springs on 2.0T

    9-3 Sedan, Cabrio '04+, Combi, 9-3X Workshop
Ah, now I understand. The effect isn't a flat 1.2", it's 1.2 from Stock base, and less off the aero. Got it. Thanks for clarifying.

    9-3 Sedan, Cabrio '04+, Combi, 9-3X Workshop
Hold on a second, I just want to double check that I understand this. If Stock (not Aero) ride height is ~6 inches, you say that Eibach will drop 1.2 to 1.4, so let's call it 4.7 inch ride height. But if Aero Ride height is ~5.5 inches, you're saying Eibach will drop the ride height an more...

Sorry to hear your issues. $3300 is certainly on the high side of the estimates. Boston is a Saab hotbed, so I'd research an indie mechanic that's well reviewed in your area and get an estimate from them before making a decision. The parts are only ~$200-300, so it's all labor. A dealer is...
