Default Accessory dash button for fogs?

Has anyone used the accessory button (immediately beneath the Night Panel button on my 2009 9-3 SS has a "--------" on it) to operate any lighting etc. The owner's manual says that is what it's for...

I am wondering how robust the wiring may be : would like to use it for Xenon fogs as my SS doesn't have the front fog button and thought this may be easier than replacing the headlight switch.

Default No one in the US has been able to get this to work.

"No one in the US has been able to get this to work. Apparently, the software is disabling it. What happens is that you can activate the option, but the software in the car to make it work is missing. It's like turning on a light switch that's not connected to anything (you know you turned it on, but the bulb still ain't on). That's why a dealer may swear up & down the the option is enabled, but still not working.
After getting off the horn with Tech support, he discerned that since USDOT limits the amount of lumens that can emanate from the front of the vehicle (I'm not familiar with that one), Saab has decided to not to enable this in North American cars."

I'd like the rocket launcher feature please... . That way I can quickly take care of those who stay an average speed of 55-60mph in the fast lane and don't move over. Sorry if that sounds a bit too hostile, but come on.

Mine does what that button did in Quagmire's Winnabago in the episode when Stewie and Brian take a road trip to San Fran.

Heh. Guys that watch Family Guy should have a laugh at that one...

what that funny!!!

in the owner's manual is described as an option for extra lights.
it can be used for two sport lights in the front grille and also, for fog lights.

the relay is activated by bus line; then, it is necessary thech2 to add this option.

the 4 ways connector (two lamps wires out) is located in the wiring harness wrapped with tape on the left side engine bay near the back edge battery and strut base.

it is an option, there is a kit assemble and must be functional.

Thanks- I had seen the previous post from 2005 giving up on this feature. I was hoping/wondering if that has changed... Still in my owner's manual.

Jdlrony - you are in Spain - is that where you bought your car?Why can't I just get the european firmware for Tech2?

I will keep you posted - the wiring is there shouldn't be that difficult. Then, the Night Rider red sweeping LED will be MINE...hahahaha

first, try to find the 4 ways connector, see above my post. if yes, it very easy, only connect the optional extra light wiring harness to the fog lamps, relay and fuse 15A.
your dealer will be able to add this option by GMlan TIS2web download and then load with tech2.

otherwise, if there is not the connector, then, it is not possible, due no switch/relay/fuse wires in the wiring harness to BCM in out.

This would be awesome I miss the night panel function from my ng900, it made the interior of the car truly dark. The SS implementation is just lame.

Don't lose heart! Unfortunately Futurama has a much better chance of getting renewed for five more seasons than Saab has for surviving past December 31.
