Default Time for struts.. Don't know who to by (brand)

Hey guys,

Need new struts. I don't know which brand to go with. The ones on rockauto are FCS (if I buy fully assembled)

Eeuroparts has a lot more to pick from, but up near the 500 dollar range for both front ones.

I understand suspension isn't something to skimp out on, so I want to get advice from you guys on good brands, even if it means getting not fully assembled (as I need strut bearing too) and swapping springs myself.

Thanks all.

Originals are Sachs, Bilstein is OEM - I think. I wound up going with Bilstein B4s for shocks and struts since there was some crazy 20% off sale. I'm very happy with them, but reviews seem to say they were just a little bit stiffer.

I just did mine today, it was very straightforward except the strut mount bolt (the 22mm one) was tough to get off on both struts. I finally had to grip the piston with a locking pliers (actually my son and I each had to grab it) to avoid that from turning with the bolt. I bought the Bilistein B4 strut assemblies from eEuroparts and just took the springs off the old Sachs ones and swapped over (of course you'll need spring compressors and obviously be very careful!). The Bilsteins are obviously much better made than the original Sachs, you can tell that just from handling each of them.

My 9-3 has 161K on it and the struts were original (Sachs), so the ride difference is really nice, but to be honest I thought it would be even greater after seeing the shape of the old ones, whose pistons wouldn't even expand back out once compressed. Still, it was long overdue.

Don't forget to order new boots, top bearings, and the rubber things that cover the spring bottom, all on eEuro.

Good luck!

Default Kyb

I've always used KYBs on all of my cars and been happy. Usually they are pretty inexpensive through Rock Auto. I always feel like they give me the same firm Saab ride that I am used to.
