Default Rear fog light

I have a Canadian-spec '89 9kT. I don't believe rear fog lights were offered in NA on earlier MY cars, but I'm hoping someone with a Euro-spec car can tell me which light(s) in the rear cluster(s) are the fog lights? The Haynes manual describes foglights but only says it's combined with the tail lights. My car has both lower lights operating as tail lights, and the outer ones also have second filaments for stop lights. (The top light is also a brake light.)
Are there rear foglights on both sides or only the driver's side?
Can I assume that the lower, inner lights are fogs and should have 2 filaments?
What spec bulb is the fog light? Do they operate from the same switch as the front fog lights or is there a second switch? (I have a blank spot beneath the front light's switch.)
Thanks,
Rod.

Hi

For European cars rear fog lights are uppermost lights (in Your car stop lights) because according to European directives there must be at least 100mm distance between brake light and rear fog light. So as lowest sector works as tail lights and brake lights (outer) only the highest sector may be rear fog light.
If rear fog lamps are fitted, there should be separate switch in dashboard near front fog light switch.
Bulbs: 2x12V 21W

Thanks, Duesenberg. I can only assume then that there must be different spec evens among European cars. Apparently in the UK, the lowermost outer light is the fog light -- although it may be that's in cars of a certain age. In any event, I'll see if I can wire up the top driver's side light to also act as a fog light.
Rod.

There has been different regulations even inside Europe. For example some 9000 models had separate fog light mounted in tailgate, some models had rear fog light in same cluster as other lights.
There is certain marking of rear lights -
R - taillight
S1, S2 or S3 - brake light
2a, 2b or 3 - direction indicator
AR - reversing light
F (also B used in some countries) - rear fog light

Those marking may not work for NA spec cars or for old models.

Hi Rod

I must testify You are absolutely right about rear fog light - it is lowermost outer light.

Duesenberg,
What surprises me is that Euro-spec cars only have a single brake light -- there must be a lot of fog there to make a fog light as important as brake lights (because we don't have fog lights, we have 2 brakes lights).
Cheers,
Rodney

I think the reason of only one pair of brakelights is lobby of some insurance companies.
With two pairs of brakelights only totally blind can't see that other driver is braking.
So You could imagine the situation here in Estonia if mandatory are only one pair of brakelights and some drivers has shoe number (size) much bigger than their IQ.

Fortunately all passenger cars built after 1999 (1999 included) must have additional, third brake light. For older cars additional brake light(s) are recommended.

My 9000 CSE has 1 rear fog light located on the right side (the left side is the reverse lamp) of the tailgate but I can't seem to find a way to turn it on. Am I missing a switch on the dash? If so, which blank?

that's one mightily old thread ressurected !!

to the right of the steering wheel there's the front fogs' switch, rear fog and light height adjustment in a vertical strip, top two are red and last is green. probably the reverse on LHD cars. they have a sort of D symbol with wavy lines on them....can't remember which is which but the rear one makes the orange warning light show on the dash.

Haha, I didn't want to start a new thread.

Thanks! Is this not a common option? I can't seem to find the switch on Ebay but the front fog switch is common.
