Default My 2006 Saab 97-x alternator/ not charging

Hi here is my situation. I have a Saab 97-x 4.2
With a few issues. been having problems with the 2 low beams flickering off constantly. The car has a very low idle and stalls and the voltage drops all the way down. We have to apply the foot brake and keep the gas pedal enough to keep the rpms up and preventing the voltage to drop. I replaced my plugs yesterday and I put in a used alternator from the Salvage yard (it passed all tests) the car still idlles low and the voltage drops still. This all began this past winter I left the car acc. On overnight and we needed a jump, the guy next to use brought his tractor over to give us a jump. After the jump the Saab stalled again 2 times on the 3rd jump we did the brake and gas pedal trick. And that's how we been driving the vehicle that ever since. The battery is 3 years old.
Oh another thing my wife will drive the Saab to work and it will sit there for hours.
After work she will drive Walmart like 4 miles away, when she tries to start the truck it won't start and needs a jump.
I know this is long winded and probably confusing, I tried my best to describe my problesp with the 97-x. Does anyone have a clue? Thank you
Jay G.

Low idle will cause the alternator to not spin fast enough, leading to low charging output. I’d suggest fixing the crappy idle (bad throttle body, vacuum leaks, etc) so that it idles correctly. Then check your ground, alternator, and battery connections and make sure they are squeaky clean. That should get you on the right path. If you’re still having trouble, then pull the battery and alternator and have them both tested as well.
