I thought I would post some pics as well..... Here is my 2008 9-5..... My wife thought the red was a bit feminine, but I have to disagree completely. I think the red on this car looks very appetizing......

Could you describe or explain in detail your Stage III upgrade process and tell me if you are happy with it. How much did you invest in the upgrades? Was it worth your effort? Does it effect the longevity of the block? Did you receive adequate J.R.O.I., Joy return on investment to justify the upgrades to a skeptical wife?

His build is on this forum, just search for his name; he did this build 10 years ago, a lot of things have changed in the audio scene since then. Just a simple head unit upgrade cleans up the audio in these cars tenfold.

I took it one step further and did the sound deadener on the doors, roof, upper dash, rear deck and it does help. I put in kappa speakers in the dash, components in the front and rear doors and added a slim sub in the truck for a relatively well rounded sound. My newest head unit has been extremely difficult to dial in because all my music changes (Mp3s are wonderful aren't they), but I am mostly happy with it. I have maybe....$700 into it if that.

Motor is getting pulled today. Definitely spun a bearing. But this thing is not going to die on me

Why do you think it spun? I have a 9-5 Aero Wagon and I plan on driving it. Until it dies (then hopefully fix it and keep driving it)

Was driving down the road, oil light came on. Went away with higher RPM

Drained the oil (about 800 miles on it) and had more gold flake than I've ever seen. Spun bearing is the best case scenario.

Also on a cold start there's something that faintly sounds like rodknock

My 2002 9-5 Aero wagon. 5 sp manual. It puts a smile on my face every time I drive it! Even the days it acts up, haha.

Beautiful car! I know there's one more of us at eEuroParts, but with an automatic and roof rails... I envy your Aero package!

I'm the proud new owner of a Silver 2003 9-5 Aero Wagon 5spd w/Touring Package! I bought it from a dealership in Virginia and shipped it down here in South Carolina.

The bad news is that some work needs to be done to it. It's mainly Saab-specific stuff that just has to be done anyway along with some other things that come with a 14 year old car.

After the car was dropped off, I took it for a spin. It feels much tighter than my 9-3 SE, and the speed sneaks up on you. 60 in this car feels like 45 in my 9-3.

There is more throttle lag on the 9-5 as well. I was thinking that the increased displacement would help with Saab's laggy throttle response, but I guess not. Nothing a bit of muscle memory can't fix.

But anyway, today the oil pan is getting dropped and cleaned, a new fuel pump is being put in (fuel level sender acting up, might as well replace the whole thing since it has 120k, and probably is the original pump), PCV update #6 is being installed, and hopefully the starter stays in there. I needed a new battery before diagnosing starter issues (cranks really slowly, sometimes not at all), and the first person who tested it (Autozone) said the battery amperage was low. A Saab specialist tested it and said the battery is trash. So, we'll see.

The front doors rattle when you close them with the windows down, the rear hatch has something loose in there that slides about them opening and closing, the bottom of the left mirror has some weird discoloration going on.

The rust is very good given it's a 14 year old Virginia/New York car. There is little bit underneath the fender lips (less than 1in, flaking), slight bubbling on one of the fenders (less than 2in.), and a bit of rust around the bottom perimeter of the car (I'd say 2in areas here and there). Nothing too serious, so the next step will be to fix the rust. Better to fix it now while it's cheap.

I got the car for $5k including taxes and stuff, so I got a pretty good deal on it I think. Makes stomaching the repair bill a bit easier lol. Oh yeah, the SID is messed up too. Darn ribbon cables. They should have used some kind of clamp like the ones you see on laptop PCBs instead of gluing it.

The biggest thing right now is the oil pan condition. The carfax report shows pretty regular maintenance intervals, I don't hear any engine noises, and there isn't an oil light, so if there is any sludge it'll hopefully be at a stage where it can be removed with some engine flush and frequent oil changes. I used my OBDII reader and didn't see any codes, so that's a little reassuring. Then again, the CEL/Triangle light on Saabs only seem to pop up when something is REALLY screwed up.

Cosmetically-wise, the condition is excellent considering the location the car was at and how old it is. The paint and body are in great shape, and the interior looks great as well. The second owner took good care of it, all things considered.

TL;DR: I got a cool car that needs some work done to it

Fun fact: Of all 9-5s produced, only 0.68% of them were Aero wagons with a manual transmission. Then again, pretty much any stick shift wagon is rare, especially those in good condition.

After the car is in a state that I'm satisfied with, the next step is to do the suspension and to put some wheels on it. After a good bit of researching, I think I've settled on the ones I want.
