Default Distributor help!!

Hi yall, I bought a 81 saab 900 turbo. It was't gettting a spark. I checked all the wires and kind of gave up and sent it to a saab spacific mechanic.

He says that the enire distributor is bad... and that he cant find a replacement because a replacement distributor has got to be from a 1981 and he cant find one.

Is it possible to retrofit a 1982 distributor to this car? Or is there any other options that I have to get this thing running?

Thanks much!!!

In another thread, Jim suggested calling Pertronix and seeing if they still have a kit for that distributor. You may need the Bosch part# for it, which will be stamped somewhere. This would bypass the magnetic impulse system entirely with a superior triggering system.

My thought is to replace the ignition system with Megajolt. More work, more cost... more fun?

Well, nobody knows if it works yet, or if the parts are still available. Most Bosch distributors are similar across brands, so hopefully at least something can be adapted.

'81 is still the b-motor, right? With the jackshaft driven distributor? Or is it the h-motor with the cam-driven distributor? I haven't seen an '81 since about '82.
