: Turbonetics T4 Swap?

Hey guys! I've been away for quite a while! Getting ready to swap turbos on NIN3. At first, I was going to go simple with a 19t rebuild, but after a little research, I noticed that the T4 inlet appears to be the same size as the TD04HL inlet. Could anyone concur with this? If they are the same, I'll guinea pig a Turbonetics on our 9-3's (as I couldn't find another car with a Turbonetics T4). I plan a getting her re-dynotuned at Brew City Boost, but not until I do the turbo upgrade, and I love the look and sound of the Turbonetics. Thank you!

I guess no one wanted to respond.

If you have the 2.0T with the B207R engine you don't have a TD04HL inlet. I think the TD04HL was used on the 9-5 and older Saab 93's.

You probably have the TD04L-14t. You can get this upgraded to a 16t but if you have it machined to fit a 19t it will not last very long. The 16t with a full exhaust, intercooler, injectors, and tune you can push about 300hp on 91 octane at the crank.

The flange on the TD04L looks like #4 in the picture. I don't know if that is the exact one the Saab has but it looks like that (round). The TD04HL has a square one. http://www.google.com/url?sa=i&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=images&cd=&cad=rja&uact=8&docid=eYHcCd2uIxdaMM&tbnid=3XTvFVjNsJHbPM:&ved=0CAUQjRw&url=http%3A%2F%2Fforums.turbobricks.com%2Fshowthre ad.php%3Ft%3D267588&ei=XsXOU9XNK9a2yASY8oDYDw&bvm=bv.71198958,d.aWw&psig=AFQjCNHYiz9qOHJn-2XxYiAZA6GzQ8-KkA&ust=1406146268844866

I hope this helps.

Thank you for a reply as everyone seems to be ignoring this thread! I know the stock turbo was swapped out before I bought it by the previous owner, I'm assuming its OEM. I know I push just below 19lbs, and I've read that the 14t peaks at around 13lbs. I guess the only way to find out is to crawl into my engine bay and loom at the inlet. Thank you again!!!

Since you have listed at 2006 2.0T I'm going to assume this is your car. The stock turbo runs at 12-12.5 PSI. If the guy before you had a tune then you probably have 18-21 PSI. This does not require a different turbo and will get you around 265HP at the crank.

If the guy installed a down pipe and exhaust with a stage 3 tune your probably pushing around 285HP at the crank.

Your engine is a: B207R engine
Your Turbo is a: TD04L-14t

Can't put a T4 on unless you do a custom flange/custom lines.
Then you have to talk to a tuner, i doubt anybody has a turbo that size running correctly on a stock maf/map sensors. Even 18t 19t guys have issues

The stock saab turbo manifold is a 3 bolt flange it is incompatible with any aftermarket turbo. The volvos run a t3 style flange on their td04's and the og saabs run a t2 or t25 flange on theirs. The only way to run a different aftermarket turbo on these cars is to get a new manifold, that is what I did. The only other option is sending out your old turbo to be rebuilt with a larger compressor wheel.
