Oil, gaskets, and "check engine" problems

Details:

GM 900, 1994, submitted by Kara
Question: 94 900SE 2.3 (non-turbo) automatic. The check engine light came on 5 days ago, and my husband checked the oil level and it was lower than usual, although we had only recently changed the oil. The engine was making a ticking noise and had a burning smell. We took it to the mechanic and he said the reason was because the valve gaskets had broken and come loose. He replaced them and 3 days later, the check engine light came on again. The oil level is fine, there is no burning smell anymore, and it is not making any unusual noises. Could it be that the code was not reset properly, or another engine problem? --Kara.

It could be either, I would advise taking the car to a SAAB dealer for a diagnosis visit to find out which codes are causing the check engine light to register
