Classic Saab 9000: Recommended Service Schedule (1) 2
All 4 cylinder models 1985 to 1995 (UK - C to N registration)
These are the minimum maintenance intervals recommended by the manufacturer for vehicles driven daily. lf you wish to keep your vehicle in peak condition at all times, you may wish to perform some of these procedures more often.
lf the vehicle is driven in dusty areas, used to tow a trailer, or driven frequently at slow speeds (idling in traffic) or on short journeys, more frequent maintenance intervals are recommended.
| Every 250 miles (400 km) or weekly |
| Check the engine oil level |
| Check the engine coolant level |
| Check the brake fluid level |
| Check the screen washer fluid level |
| Visually examine the tyres for tread depth, and wear |
| Check and if necessary adjust the tyre pressures |
| Check and if necessary top-up the battery electrolyte level - where applicable |
| Check the operation of the horn, all lights, and the wipers and washers |
| At first 6000 miles (10,000 km) or 12 months — whichever comes sooner |
| Change the engine oil and filter |
| Check and if necessary adjust the coolant antifreeze concentration |
| Steering and suspension check |
| Check and if necessary adjust the front wheel alignment |
| Check and if necessary top-up the power steering fluid level |
| Check the Fraction Control System (TCS) |
| Check the seat belts for operation and damage |
| Visually check the airbag system |
| Lubricate all hinges and locks |
| Clean the battery terminals |
| Check the headlight and foglight beam alignment |
| Road test |
| Every 12 000 miles (20 000 km) or 12 months — whichever comes sooner |
| Change the engine oil and filter |
| Check the crankcase ventilation system |
| Check all hoses |
| Check and if necessary adjust the coolant antifreeze concentration |
| Check and if necessary adjust the auxiliary drivebelt tension |
| Check the air conditioning refrigerant |
| Renew the ventilation air filter (after first renewal, every 24 000 miles) |
| Check and if necessary top-up the power steering fluid level |
| Check the exhaust system |
| Renew the spark plugs (leaded petrol models only) |
| Check and if necessary top-up the manual transmission oil level |
| Check and if necessary top-up the automatic transmission fluid level |
| Check the driveshaft rubber gaiters |
| Check the front and rear brake pads and discs |
| Check all brake lines and flexible hoses |
| Check the suspension and shock absorbers |
| Visually check the airbag system |
| lubricate all hinges and locks |
| Check the seat belts for operation and damage |
| Clean the battery terminals |
| Check the headlight and foglight beam alignment |
| Road test |
| Every 24 000 miles (40 000 km) or 2 years — whichever comes sooner |
| In addition to all the items listed in the previous section, carry out the following: Renew the air cleaner filter element |
| Renew the spark plugs (unleaded petrol models only) |
| Change the automatic transmission fluid and filter |
| Check and if necessary adjust the front wheel alignment |
| Every 48 000 miles (80 000 km) or 3 years — whichever comes sooner |
| Renew the coolant/antifreeze |
| Every 96 000 miles (160 000 km) |
| Renew the fuel tilter |
