Well I went to get all the salt off to this car wash I NEVER go to becauseI'm lazy and it's right there around the block. So all is well and fine until I go through it and notice that my rear wiper is nowhere to be seen. I was so pissed I was about to get into a fistfight with the owner of the wash that said that it's not their responsibility. I could understand that line if it was a body kit that broke, but a wiper? Come on... So I went to a police station and filed a complaint and will be taking them to small claims court soon.

your reasoning confuses me. you know those cloth whippey things? that move back and forth over your vehicle? bet it's hanging from one of those. all ready to wreck havoc on the next car going through the wash... |

The reasoning is that a person with a body kit should NEVER go through an automated car wash with rails. That WILL ruin the kit and the guy going thorough it KNOWS what damage will be done to it. Every wash has a notice about kits and antennas. A wiper is not aftermarket equipment or a fragile power antenna. It is the 2.95 car wash on bustleton ave between red lion and haldeman aves. |

It really sucks that the car wash acted the way they did. Glad to hear you found the wiper and your car is whole again.
I have a similar story. Four days after I got my car I took it through the car wash and it poped my tire and put huge gouges in the rim. At first the car wash didn't want to take any respondsibility for the damage but the same thing happened to the car behind me so they paid for the tire and rim. But I'm still out over $300 because I didn't want to have one new tire and three with 20,000 miles so I went ahead and put all new tires on the car. I only take it to the touchless car wash now. |

So I guess the wiper wasn't secure. Not the car wash fault then.
The lesson I suppose, is to go around the vehicle and make sure everything is secure before proceding through. Glad you have your wiper back. You can call off the lawyers now.

Ummm...the actual wiper arm came off...and it worked wonderfully prior so I didn't even think about checking the nut that held the arm in place.

some "body kits" are factory fit. Quote:
a non-recessed wiper could easily get caught on a piece of equipment in an auto wash... and of course the person is going to get upset, as I'm sure the minimum wage jockies running the place that are working there as a last resort in life will be more than willing to jump up and assist. naturally. this all makes sense. not ripping on you... or the situation... it sucks. but to get so RAAAAARRR about your laziness (quoting you, not coming up with this on my own) and going for teh cheap (also quoting you... $2.95 is cheap by any standard) about a wiper that may or might not have gotten ripped off at the fault of the mechanical washer (removed or broken? there is a difference) IMHO is more a life lesson learned than anything else. here's wishing you and the wash jockie a better tomorrow. |

I admit, I overreacted. Not only that, but I guess that's my car's way of telling me not to be lazy

Every Wash Place I see has a disclaimer posted, some use duct tape over rear wipers and unscrew fixed antennae to keep them from getting yanked by those 10 foot sponges which are actually quite heavy

I would not use a car wash on my Saab, it has to be one of the worst things you can do to your finish. Have you ever really looked at it after it's gone through one of those things I don't care if it's brushless or not. I have a carwash that's within a block of my house and they completely redid it supposedly with super soft brushes. I ran my Saab through it just to check it out as I knew I was going to give it a complete buff out within the next week. After I checked out the finish very closely, the scratches that it left were horrible. I know the scratches at I saw were not there when it went in. I would rather have a dirty car than run through one of those places. That was three years ago I haven't run my Saab through a car wash since. It's hand wash for me all the way.
