Hi,
I was driving along the motorway today on cruise and happened to need to swerve slightly to avoid a lump of something lying in the road. It was just a quick flick from right to left, but a decisive action. When I did this, the cruise control suspended. I tried it again out of curiousity and it was replicable, both with a right-left and left-right flick. Is it supposed to do this? My last car with cruise didn't, but I can understand that safety wise it might be a good idea to turn off cruise if you had to make an emergency move, and obviously with ESP it knows what I am doing with the steering wheel so has the input data to hand. On the otherhand, it could be a fault which I need to get fixed before the warranty runs out at the end of the month!! Garry |

How this works is probably covered in the WIS.
I know the CIM keeps track of steering wheel angle and rate of change of that angle. These factors are used to modulate stability control. There is also the yaw sensor and individual wheel speeds. Also throttle position, etc., etc. I'll bet if you hit a patch of "black ice" and one wheel started to slip the cruise would kick off. |

If the stability or traction control is activated in any way, the cruise is switched off automatically. The yaw sensor must be kicking in when you do the quick avoidance mauever.
This applies to all cars; not just Saabs... |
