Default Liverpool Police Warning

just to let anyone know who may be travelling thru liverpool tomoro..... be aware... there was a massive operation today, blocking off routes and funneling traffic thru their check areas.....

guess who forgot (genuinely forgot - my bad) to ring their insurance company and get the second car on my policy ?

ce la vie... you only ever make mistakes once

MAKE DOUBLY SURE YOU ARE 100% LEGAL

Who is the legal owner of the second car? It's not your wife by any chance is it?

If so, surely your policy covers you for driving a car not belonging to you under 3rd party.

Were you given a producer? Did they ask for documentation there and then (never give it even if you have it).

What was the purpose of the roadblock, was it an authorised road block. It has to be authorised by the right person, an ACPO rank officer (Assistant Chief Constable or above) so can't just be set up by a couple of bobbies up a country lane for example. In your case though, if it was a pucca operation then it probably was.

From http://www.acpo.police.uk/asp/polici...b_27x02x04.doc

(viii) SOLID ROAD BLOCK

A solid roadblock is the total closure of a carriageway or road by placing immovable objects or vehicles, excluding police vehicles, in a subject vehicle’s path with the intention of blocking its path or causing it to change its direction from its current course.

IT IS PROHIBITED, SAVE IN EXCEPTIONAL CIRCUMSTANCES.

SOLID ROADBLOCKS MUST BE AUTHORISED BY AN OFFICER OF ACPO RANK.

The principle of proportionality under human rights legislation [see para. 4.3 (vii)] must be carefully considered before authorising the use of this tactic. All officers authorising this tactic MAY be required to justify their decision.

If it's just a "Road Check" then it has to be authorised by an inspector and then a superintendent in writing. http://www.hampshire.police.uk/NR/rd...38/0/26213.pdf

You should have been told the reason for the check.

David.

i hear what you say, and i totally agree with you

however, i would feel a little miffed if i were classed in the same terms as all the "intentional" non insured drivers out there... i know of some people who consistently and repeatedly do away with insurance, and see it as something that they can get away without, rather than being a necessity

mine was a total, honest and geniune oversight. i know there are no excuses, and am taking the whole thing on the chin.... however i do not want to be labelled as a deliberate criminal

the defence rests your honour

G

I can personally understand the oversight. Myself, I don't seem to concern myself with these sorts of technical details much. I don't involve myself in any of our banking, financial planning or any of those types of things. I just don't care. Christine takes care of those things for us and I never think about them.

I don't even know when the insurance is due. And its in my name!

im not going to get into an argumant about this, as i know i was in the wrong and accept the punishment accordingly.... my only point was this was a genuine mistake, so please dont label me as the same as those who consistently, repeatedly and habitually do not get, or refuse to get insurance (friend of mine had his VR6 Corrado written off by an uninsured driver, and dads friend was paralised by one too, - so while i dont know personally what it is like, i would NEVER knowingley do so.... this was a 100% mistake)

my point for the original post, was to forwarn anyone passing thru merseyside, to probably take their documenst with them, and avoid the hassle of a producer..... that, and the traffic is hell as they conned off all the 3 lane A roads down to 1 lane, during rush hour

my last post on the matter... berate me all you like from now on.... but as i have stated my position and accepted my mistake, i will not be posting again

I can understand the oversight too. I have done the same

G, no one's lumping you in the same group as the scum crims who flout the rules of insurance.

I think this thread's got off topic - afterall, G was only doing the decent thing and warning fellow 'Centrallers to be careful.

Not quite because that 2k would go straight to the treasure, kerching thank you very much!

Meanwhile, every other insured driver gets to pay a whack towards the cost of covering uninsured drivers. I'd rather that 2k go straight to the victim or into the pot of money that insurers are having to dig from but then common sense doesn't prevail in this situation does it?

David.

I still wouldn't bother. They'd be much smarter using the ANPR coupled to the insurance, tax and MOT databases and then just pull the cars that get flagged up.

Was this what they were doing or stopping every car?

now how would you feel if you ran over a child? or ran over 1 of yours, you wouldn't get away with it with that defence even if it was beyond your control
Having insurance does'nt give you a free pass to mow people down , just 'insures' that they will be compensated for any loss or injury caused by the negligence of another driver, there's no reason why you can't settle matters yourself if you are in an accident, although you may contractually be obliged to inform your insurers.

You may also be able to seek compensation through the civil courts, if an uninsured driver damages your property/causes you injury

nope, just pulling random/suspicious or obviously dodgy cars as they crawled thru the only open lane at 3 miles an hour (i was wearing a suit, in a 10 year old family estate, so definately not dodgy... she just got lucky )

The whole insurance epic in the UK really does my head in!

Why can't it be simple to insure vehicles for anyone to drive? Why not just pay a fee to drive any vehicle up to a certain value/performance and be done with all this rubbish?

How many scallys just get a cover note to tax their car then cancel the insurance and have no come back due to their 'no fixed abode' status?

The bloody coppers are always outside my work at the start of each month checking tax discs with their fancy new cameras, why the hell don't they ban the persistant offenders thet evade insurance by blacklisting their names by introducing a policy that makes you have to state your driving licence number to get insurance?

It really is a mess at the minute, it could be so simple.

You don't even have to fess up about convictions to get a policy, if they had the full details this would be known?

on a side note... what winds me up is the way that they completely blitzed all the major routes in and out of the city, at rush hour, at the begining of march, coz they know that next financial years budget will be dependant on this years figures (much the same as the council digging up all the roads in march )

G

dont shoot me down again, i accept full responsability for my forgetfullness, and i know i deserve what i get
