How do I check D.I. ?

I've got a problem with a car not starting. It's using a direct ignition system. ( DI/APC )

How do I check to make sure the ignition system is working.. i.e. how do I check for a spark?

I've pulled the DI and stuck 4 plugs in but you have to ensure all 4 plugs are to a good earth than crank it over...might not be the correct way but worked for me.
