Default Stock SRT4 intercoolers?

I am looking at intercooler options, and somebody somewhere mentioned that people like to use stock SRT4 intercoolers. They are basically the same as Viggen intercoolers to my knowledge, and can be had for $50-75 shipped. Anyone have one installed? What did you need to do to install it? How does it compare as a crossflow intercooler to the stock intercooler?

Actually saw one on the shelf of my local garage and was thinking the same thing.

Dunno if it directly fits but looks damn close

Aluminum end tanks to boot

perhaps to show you could get a viggen for $75 as well?

have you guys ever considered johnny race car generic IC's?
I have one for the eclipse. they're pretty cheap, and better quality than most ebay IC's

nevermind.... they're on a "long, well-deserved vacation"

I hope dude starts back up. he did build a nice IC

But why get the Viggen with plastic end tanks if I can get one with metal end tanks for cheaper?

if nothing else, a good fit.

the problem with saab IC's is the length having to be Correct AND the height-offset being correct.

you'd be suprised how easy it is to have a custom IC made anymore.
the tough part is finding someone who'll weld it up. and weld it well.

yes, I posted it to show you could potentially get one that fits perfectly and designed for the car, for the same price. They're also like 100 or 150 new on some website, I can't remember which though.

but metal end tanmks are definitely superior, but does the SRT-4 intercooler fit nicely?

So...no one has actually attempted to use the SRT-4 intercooler then?

Just by eyeballing the srt-4 intercooler looks a bit bigger than mine (viggen intercooler). Looks to be both wider and thicker than mine. But these are purely my own guestimations.

Snowboardin58, be wary of that Viggen intercooler. To my knowledge that is the third intercooler he has pulled from a Viggen in the last month or so. He did not reply to my last message. He must have an endless supply of Viggens.

IMO why would you buy a part off of a car that the tuners of that car removed bc it wasn't up to their standards for performance, ive seen plenty of srt's around with larger intercoolers, which is reason enough for me to not buy their old stock one.

Most srt owners have higher aspirations for theirs than we do ours. Those stock IC's have been proven to work in higher HP applications than most stock-turbo saabs are capable of. not to mention, upgraded intercoolers are pretty cheap for the srt4.

DSM's upgrade to stock supra side-mounts, and in some cases stock starion intercoolers.

many many MANY people upgrade to, or use stock 9000 intercoolers in turbo applications.

I wouldn't tell anyone NOT to upgrade to the srt-4 IC, but I personally wouldn't unless it was very in-expensive and I had a weekend to make my own pipe-kit.

Thumbs up

The Spearco direct fit SRT-4 is the best upgrade for a 9.3!

I wouldn't drive one either, but don't underestimate them.

Ok since all the fluff seems to be finished, the original question still remains has it been fitted and will it work on a Saab?

You can tell just by looking that it won't fit correctly.
The in/outlets are offset by a couple inches on the Stock IC, and the srt-4 is not.

Then, you have length...
