A gentleman in Philadelphia has started an organization seeking reparations from the British Government as compensation for damages arising from its wrongful actions worldwide; dating back from the founding of the British monarchy in 871.
How much, you ask? £ 32 trillion. Of course, the entire gross domestic product of the UK is only £ 2 trillion. So he's willing to take payments over 50 or 75 years. website is here: http://www.britishreparations.org/ I'll take my share in $100 bills, please ! |

I'm not really up on british politics, but I'm assuming the government there already gives both financial, edible, and physical aid to countries all over the place (like the us). The things people will do for money. I don't see any parallel between this and the slavery reparations talked about on this side of the pond.

it also seems a bit unfair to be asking the United Kingdom to pay for issues related to British policy!

I understand we have only just paid back the final instalment on the 'lease/lend' (?) figure to the US. What was this for?

The whole issue of reparations is extraordinarily silly. There isn't a single person in the world who can't point to ancestors who weren't mistreated by some people or group at some point in the past. It is a never ending cycle and is really only an exercise in political power, ie, which group has enough political power to force another group to pay it. Should the germanic peoples not seek reparations from modern day Italy for the actions of the Roman Empire? How about the Koreans and Vietnamese for actions by the Chinese Empire - the Chinese for actions by the Mongols? Where would it end?? Counterproductive and extraordinarily silly. IMHO we should be concentrating on respecting others in the present.

That guy is a danger to himself and the rest of the world. His only intention is to get rich.

Yes over our history some of the things that britain has done, were not the nicest. However, he lives a comfortable life and wants power over the british people. £31 trillion would decimate the british economy, returning us to a backwater country, or a country so in debt as to be financially enslaved to the US. He's a relative of GWB, so I wonder if this is the US policy via other means? Then again, maybe britain should send a bill for every man, woman and child that died during the second world war to Germany, as well as unfreezing WWI loans which were greater than WWII. Maybe that would help a struggling British economy. Sometimes it's best to keep the past in the past. Yes we did wrong 300 years ago. Then again, the US's recent record isn't too great. As for blaming the UK for Iraq, why not blame us for Vietnam while your at it? Kenneth |

I love the bit about mind control through the invention of modern Universities, and what people say, through the "global master language"

Although my geneaological background is mostly English, I have some French, German, and Czech ancestry as well. Perhaps I can sue myself for compensation. !! Of course, my English ancestors emigrated to America about 1650. The post-1650 American part of me can sue the pre-1650 English part of me for compensation as well. In all seriousness, there is no way to sort out who owes what to who, because if you go back far enough, we're all related to each other in one way or another. |

You know UK just finished in 2006 paying back the USA for a huge loan dating from WWII, if the US had not done this the UK was done for! I do believe in reparations, I would say the Jewish, Polish and Russians in WW2 deserve reperations from the German state and the Germans agree or they would not have paid up. I believe the Africans used by the British/Americans for some 500 years deserve huge reperations, after all they made America the richest nation in the world, the Native Indians too and the Australian Aborigines who lets face it were genocided Nazi style should get something. The Iraqi should get reparations in the form of money from the oil the US steels from them, or is that too radical. |

That is probably one of the most idiotic thing's i've seen in a long time, closley ranked by Celebrity Big Brother (which i have had the enormous pleasure of completely ignoring).
What about the Dutch, Spanish, French, Portugese empires, the current US corperate empire, Germany, France and GB all had colonies in Africa, not to mention the Spanish in South America, what about the european wide Roman Catholic Empire, as it was the Pope who exersized control over most of Medieval Europe. His argument is so flawed it's not even an argument, it's about as nonsensical as the rambling of some drunk in a park.
