Default 2007 Radio Removal

Im trying to install the Parrot bluetooth kit but I'm running into some problems.

Does anyone know how to remove the radio on a 2007 9-3? I'm trying to get to the back of the radio to access the plugs. Does it take special tools? Any removal tips will be great!

Kyle

Welcome.

You are probably a first on this site, someone trying to do stuff with the 07 radio.

The 06 and prior radio was held in by friction alone, a butter knife on the side to prize it out, but that didn't include the CD at the bottom of the dash.

Some here have access to the technical docs. Hopefully one will be along tomorrow and can offer some help.

By "radio" do you mean the thing with the knobs? That's the ICM.

Like SMHarman said, you may be the first to pull apart a 2007.

The way it worked in 2003-2006:
EHU was behind the ACC faceplate. Basically a silver box which held the guts of the radio. Turning the knobs on the ICM told the EHU what to do. The ACC faceplate was removed with a butter knife as mentioned. Then the EHU could slide out. The Etadyne site will have the best pictures showing how this was done.

The EHU was mated to the top of the CD changer. Now (2007) the CD changer is part of the ICM.

To remove the ICM you need to remove the center air vents. This configuration looks unchanged to my eye. With the vent removed you'll have access to two torx screws which lock the ICM. Remove those and the ICM slides out.

ctrlz and SMHarman
Thanks for the info. I was able to remove the two middle vents to release the ICU. Once that was out, I installed the Parrot kit with moderate effort but I still have the vents out and the LCD loose. Tonight I'll look for the best location to mount the unit and see if I can get the vents back into the dash. Im a little nervous since the vents fell apart as soon as they were removed from the dash. I hope someone out here would have a little insight to how the pieces fit back together.

Thanks,
I'll try to take some photos and create a brief install doc for the 07.

Sounds like the front came off the vent assembly. You will need to remove the whole thing.

Kyle,

Glad you started the '07 radio removal. Thought I was the only one going into uncharted waters.

Yesterday I got as far as removing the ACC controls on my '07 vert, which was easy, looking to put in a Motorola IHF 1000. Found a large empty space, big enough to store a six pack, behind the control.

Was going to remove the vent today, then found your post. Decided to stop for more info. Did you remove the whole vent assembly, or just the inserts?

What radio do you have, the 150 or 300 watt? Did you happen to take pictures?

Thanks,

Tunny

No pics yet, my digital camera died.

I found out how to remove the hard way. I accedently removed the insert an the vent screens fell apart into my lap. Good news as I was putting it back together I found a better way to remove it.

1. There are six notches or clips that need to be lifted. They look just like the one on the ash try bin. Use an awl or ice pic to loosen the the on top of the vent and the the three on the bottom of the vent. The ones on the top are fairly easy to spot, however the ones on the bottom are not. The three on the botton are small slits. When you pry these you wont be able to see what you're doing but push the tool in until it stops and pry gently. The tool should only go to the back of clip.
2. Once the vent unit is out, remove the two torx screws and lift up on the ICU and pull out.

Im not sure of the wattage on mine. Its the base 6 disk changer that comes with the Aero.

I also found out that my car does not have a factory microphone. In the center headliner console there is a three pin plug on the left and a 4 pin plug on the right. Also, there is section cut out with some built in clips. looks like a great place for factory BT.

I still trying to find a good location for the parrot LCD. It doesnt fit like it does in the < 06 pic from this forum.

Good luck.
Hope to have pics soon

Did you read the thread mentioned in my above post? That would have pointed you to the official removal instructions as well as modifications to make future removal easier. The plastic part was not cast correctly.

The ICM probably contains the changer, but no amp.
The amp is probably still behind the ACC faceplate. That amp is called the EHU. Even if Saab got rid of the fiber optics for the audio, I bet they still have an EHU in the same spot.

In the 7 speaker, single CD, basic unit there is nothing behind the ACC.

In the convertible, the amp is located in the back lower left hand inside of the trunk.

Just ordered service manual for '07 to figure out some of the wiring.

Same with the sedan. The amp is located on the left side of the trunk

Is that not AMP2? In the sedan, you should also have an amp under the LH front seat (Drivers Seat in the USA). In the CV that is relocated to the 1/4 panel.

Let us know what happened to the EHU.
So what's behind the ACC faceplate? Just empty space? Doesn't sound right.

I think it may be empty. The EHU and ICM seem to have all been incorporated into a single unit, makes it easier for production as Nav systems just get the Nav HU.

In reality this is probably how they should have done it back in 02..........

Here are three photo's taken today, '07 vert basic radio -

1 - Depth of ACC control unit
2 - Back of ACC control unit
3 - Interior - Where ACC control is located. Not much back there except open space.

Looked everywhere for the 375 connector, no luck. Going to the dealer and hopefully have him install the connector (and cabling) so I can get on with the Motorola Bluetooth installation.

1 - 2 - 3 -

This is my first attemp at posting pictures, so if it doesn't work just bear with while I sort it out.

One more thing I forgot; schematics and descriptors for the '07 radio and connectors if anyone needs them.

I am trying to sort out everything.

Will probably have a better understanding when the manual gets here.

I cheated and bought a harness. I found this site while digging around on the parrot site. http://www.parrotkits.com/. If you want to take out the guess work and just plug and play email the guy and he'll send you the info for the 07's. It wasnt on their website the last time I looked

Kyle,

Thanks for the info. I contacted Parrotkits for the connector. They said they were out and would have some within the next couple of weeks.

Questions -

1 - Part number of kit you received?
2 - Volume controls on steering wheel work?
3 - Where did you place your mic?
4 - Everything work ok?

Thanks,

Tunny
