Tense, nervous headache?

Take ..... a drive in a 90!

It's probably not hard to spot that I've had a bit of a cr*p week this week, made all the worse that I have to work (for the first time in years) on a Saturday.

So, I'm driving home tonight, head down, BIG frown, when I notice a nice (brownish) Y reg 99 pull alongside. I exchange half-hearted (on my part) smiles with the driver and away we go. We travel a couple of miles together, smiling and generally admiring each others machines before we part company. Before I know it I'm home and considerably more cheerful!

That's twice in one week that a drive in the old girl has cheered me up (and saved me from a monumental hangover!)

Come tomorrow morning, I'll be even more grateful about that! 8)

I've spent quite a bit of time this week tooling up and down the motorway in another make of car. ops: (luxury car, built in Coventry, named after a big cat...) and I was most disapointed.

Very smooth and quiet, but not really that nice at all on the motorway. A fair bit of body roll (even when just changing lanes). Not at all what I expected.

Yesterday, I had to do a bit of a quick run down to Tamworth in the midlands, and I spent ages trying to catch up a 93 Aero that flew past me, only to discover (when the road works slowed it down enough for me to catch up ops: ) that it wasn't an Aero, but a 2.2TiD.

A short while later, a truck in the middle lane had one of it's tyres pop just as I was about to pass it. Frightened the bejeesus out of me, but not as much as the way the Jag dipped at the front & scooted all over the carriageway when I slammed on the brakes. (On a dry road, brand new car, brand new tyres/brakes, travelling in a perfectly straight line etc)

A long way short of the stable feeling you get in a 900, and million miles away from the stopping power of BillJ's 9000 Aero

I won't be buying that car (even if I could afford it!)

Glad to hear the 90 is cheering you up I know where you're coming from 'cos I'm sill enjoying driving my 99 even though the clutch is shagged, the brakes are spongy and I still get vapour lock..... Can't believe you guys keep spotting these other old Saabs around. All I seem to see is the odd c900 - usually going the other way up the dual carriageway, and loads of 9000s being driven by middle aged women. None of them seem to be Saab spotters like me though ops:

The first one! (which I'll refer to as Sally Gunnell from now on - not quite as pretty and the second one, but a blooming good runner)

The second one is still under going 'gentle recommisioning' to ensure that she's up to the task! (it's spent a major part of it's life just standing still). I'll post pics as soon as it has it's wheels back on, and I can get it out of the lock-up!)

Talking of 'Tense nervous headaches' I dropped my car off today to have the clutch done and will be worrying about it constantly until I collect it Monday afternoon :-?

You're worrying? My 9000 Aero has been with Abbott racing for over two weeks now and someone sent me a photo taken yesterday showing that there's still a gaping hole where the gearbox should be...

And even when I get it back, I'll still worry that I can't boot it without turning the transmission to dust...

What sort of Jag Mark? A mate of mine works for their marketing dept. and refuses to believe there could be any problems with their cars :! He gets a bit jittery when I talk about re-bodied Mondeos....

I can excuse the lack of power as it was the smaller 2.0 V6 and not the preferred 2.5....

Still a worry about the response under heavy braking though. No car should behave like that let alone a new Jag.

Have to say I was a bit depressed myself this morning. After 5 weeks in Stavanger and the Fjord Fjesta I was looking forward to a Sunday drive in the 95. The lack of brakes (NONE as per my Paco post in the lounge) put paid to that. The 99 Turbo is sitting outside my brothers, waiting for me to collect it. 550 miles away The Landie is waiting on new tyres, the P6 MOT ran out whilst I was away so it is the company c*rsa. Just as bad as the Fjesta!

Then the sun came out, still a cold wind, but what the hell. Just completed a 120 mile trip on the back lanes in this. Bl00dy superb!!
