Default JL 6w0 subwoofers in doors?

Has anyone tried out these small 6" subs from JL Audio? I want to replace the factory loudspeakers in the doors with these but wonder in their smaller (0.5") size will be an issue

This site lists the nominal diameter as being 6.5", in which case it should mount up to the mounting rings fine. You will want to check the depth to ensure clearance.

Ah yes, the mounting depth, the JL site list these as having a mounting depth of 3.5". Does anyone know the depth of the factory speakers in the doors? Or what the maximum depth would be? I don't the my door panel off to measure for my self.

3.5 will be just fine. The mounting rings are nearly one inch thick themselves.

how do you plan on constructing a box to ensure they have the correct air volume. those are designed for small sealed boxes.

just curious. thought about them in my tahoe.
ended up running free air designed kicker 6.5 no box needed.
sounded great, handled ****loads of power with no distortion.

That's good to know, I wasn't sure of other sub type speakers that would fit in the doors.

So i'm now looking at Kicker SSMB6 Midbass speakers, they list as having a fq.range of 30-500 Hz, and are free air compatable.

Are these what you used lazyjss?

yes and they work great. no distortion. sound good.
handle loads of power.
bought mine on ebay. mounting depth is just over 2 inches and should fit easily.
i also added square foot of dynamat to each mounting surface in the door before install. to help with any door vibrations.

See this site. Click on "fitting" at the top and then scroll a little way down. The fastener locations are pointed out for you.
