personally i dont like the ONE tone horn on my car. Whether u press hard or soft u get the same sound which is also a deep empty drum sound. I dont personally use my horn often and hate to abuse of it, but when it is needed it is needed and it is not that effective

I had an air horn set up on my Focus. It sounded just like a big rig sounding off.

I wish our car had the "typica" european sound horn, which seems to be a lot more high pitched or something. I loved the horn on my 85 Benz 300D, it was so loud, high pitched, and ANNOYING. It really got ppl's attention.

Do a google search for train horns. They are about as loud as you can get. Of course you need a small tank and aircompressor to run them, but if you like to scare the pants off of people they are the horns you want.

The horn on the 9-3 is acceptable. Sounds pretty much like a regular horn to me - nothing particularly extraordinary but gets the jobe done.

My other car is an '05 Volvo S40. Best (stock) horns ever. It's a nice dual tone job and you can see the horns right behind the grill. They can wake the dead. Loud and piercing yet it's not high pitched an annoying. Forceful, is the best word. A masterpiece of automotive sonic enjoyment.

Air horns can be fun. I had an Mercury Tracer in high school - just like a Ford Escort. The stock horn just quit one day. Browsing the replacement horn section of my local auto parts store, I couldn't resist the dual air horns w/ compressor option. What fun to have a little car that sounded like an 18-wheeler. Comic value asside, the horn was remarkably effective at commanding attention from other drivers who were not paying attention. I think that investment may have saved me from at least 1 or 2 incidents where someone wasn't paying attention and may have run into me.

Those train horns are a whole different level of loud. You can't appreciate just how devastatingly loud they are from a video. A couple of people in my town have those, and occasionally you'll hear them on a Friday night of cruising. The sound carries for miles. They are unbelievable.

Gotta say that the horn is one thing on my Saab I am not overly fond of. I much prefer a horn that responds to lighter pressure.

Could'nt agree more.

if you want to get someones attention that the traffic light is green, they get pissed, because you can't really "beep" it.

Same goes for trying to wave at people you see on the streets. Its embarassing

Anyone knows what brand/model of electric horn is the loudest? We can only use electric horns here. Nothing beats an air horn though but that is illegal on private/passenger car.

You can try FIAMM horns. Have one on my truck and it suits well.

I find the horn plenty loud enough. Heads turn, it has the effect needed when I use it. Don't forget that with the windows closed our car is well insulated.

On my wife's little Renault 5 we have an old Cadillac horn that really surprises people
