Hi, i have bought myself a spare engine 2.0l 8v Turbo from a 1989 car and it is sat at home in my shed, to make things a little safer i would like to buy an purpose made engine stand, but how much does the engine weigh, i've had a quick look through Haynes but cant seem to find the answer, any help please, apart from draging it into the bathroom and dropping it on the bathroom scales then im at a loss

Hi, I read a little while ago that the 16v engine and box weighs 350kg.
Can't remember where tho, but if you read the link Matthew sent it mentions the engine weight as 140kg, and the gearbox assembly will be at least the same weight again. Only going on experience for the gearbox weight as it was darned heavy to move around when it was out of the car. |

Since that thread, I know know an 8v NA is ~ 140kg. So allow minimum capacity 250kg's without gearbox for ancilleries, and leaning on the thing occasionally
A gearbox is about 55kg's with oil.

So if i bought myself an engine stand that would take 350Kg i could lean on it most of the day, i think it could be a lonk restoration
