Clean the MAF first. If that doesn't work maybe time to replace either it or the O2 sensor. I suppose you could also check for leaks before buying any sensors.

Is this the same for lpt or hpt 2.3l mills? My lpt has done this 3 times now . . .gonna check the filter and intake system first, then spray the maf/p sensor with some cleaner then replace the 02's after that????

I ran into this problem on my other car.
Seems that I had a leak in my intake pipe (soft plastic) between the MAF and the Throttle Body. Check the gaiter connected to the MAF and the various hoses that run off from the throttle body to see that that they are connected properly and they are not leaking. I said F it today and am dropping the 9-5 off for my tech to diagnose, this car is starting to frustrate me into a V70 . . .let's keep our fingers crossed.
Damn the P1181!

2002 LPT is pulling this code off the tech 2 as well. Car is experiencing noticeable lapse in power over the past few months. I have owned the car for about 18 months. Very hesitant accelerations, even for an automatic low pressure turbo. Last time it was in the mechanic, the hose connecting to the MAF was tightened. Check engine light remained off for about two weeks after that. Power remained weak. I want to clean my MAF, but sadly I don't even know what it looks like! Is there a picture guide anywhere?
I changed the spark plugs two days ago, and the CEL came back on the next day- not sure if it's related, definitely feels that way. It was the first time I ever changed spark plugs in a car. I used a gap gauge at 1.1mm and a torque wrench set to 28 Nm. I had a partner cold start the car while I looked under the hood- I can hear a whispy, breathy sound coming from the lower left region of the engine bay. I also spotted oil bubbling out of the manifold on the front of the engine, the pipe furthest to the right- it looks like my manifold is missing a bolt right there incidentally... but why would oil come out of that region, isn't the manifold on the front an exhaust manifold? It stopped oozing oil there after the car warmed up to operating temperature. I don't hear or see any exhaust fumes escaping from where the oil came out though. Valve cover gasket was replaced last year. It does not seem to be leaking. Should I replace air filter and fuel filter? Car has about 250,000 miles on it. Previous owner drove 75,000 miles in one year with no service records noted, so there may be some neglected routine maintenance items. |
