Is there something missing from the door panel, should there be a cloth Upholstery panel on the door, or were they bare, the magazines i have seen from around the same era of 1983 seems to show cloth on the doors.

Yes, you're quite right there should be a cloth insert. Shouldn't be too hard to find a replacement, just look out for someone breaking a car with the same colour interior as yours.

I have seen tatty ones where the cloth has ripped and is sagging over the door handle, perhaps that's why yours was removed.

That door is as supplied. The ones with the cloth panel have cutouts and metal clips where it attaches. IIRC, my '86 C900 8V carb had those door panels though they did have window winders in them...

Really? I've never seen one without the cloth - you learn something new every day!

Yep, that's the way it should be. It may have something to do with the trim level of the car, or the specific year and color comination. Most do seem to have the cloth insert, but it's quite apparent when that's missing!

That's the same as all my 99 door trims (that'll be six of them!).

That door card is as they came ... I think it looks quite nice, actually; certainly in keeping with the car.

Of course if you were wanting to give the interior the same excellent treatment you have given to the engine bay then by all means swap for some door cards with insets and try to co-ordinate the fabric covered part with the seating fabric.

I think once you've removed cloth covered insets a couple of times in a hurry and got them dirty in the usual places you'll be begging for your old door cards back.
