Hi there,
the headlight wipers on my newly acquired 90 are stuck halfway out on the headlights. Car had stood still for nearly a year before I reanimated it. Got an idea how to get them going again? |

Well, some friday I read an ad stating the car had to be taken off the road prior to next monday - otherwise it would go to the junkyard...
So I phoned the owner, made an appointment, took a look at the car (it was in horrible state, stood for some month, and has been used as a childrens playground since - but it was for free. And it had a new exhaust and new tires, which I figured would cover my expenses, should I not be able to reanimate ist. That's why I now own both ends of Saabs '84/85 model range... The fuses are all o.k. I have not yet bothered to investigate the matter any further, since all my concern was directed on getting a "new" head, as the old one had a crack between cyl 3 and 4. But I read on another web page headlight wipers beeing a major source of concern, as they often failed - so I figured someone here has already had the problem, and could save me time looking things up, preventing me to check dead ends. Will work on the car next weekend, and tell what I found out! |

aero84, both wipers on my 900 have failed over the 3 yrs I've had it. In both cases I just needed to clean up the male/female connectors to the rear of the wiper motor, I guess they are liable to getting gunged up cos of their location

The wipers are pulley driven from a single motor, but due to it's exposed position under the rad tends to get damp and sieze..You could try cleaning the motor/contacts, but a new motor is probably the answer.
Now the 900 wipers tend to be pretty reliable in my experience. |

My old 90 DID have the same problem. I solved it by selling it to MarkP, and buying one which had fully working wipers on. I've never seen the slidey 99/90 ones actually moving before! They're so cool!

Yeah they seemed more effective than 900 ones too as they wipe the WHOLE lamp..and really caked on snow/ice. I've had 2 99's with working wipers..
My '75 doesn't have them - it was an option back then. I've got a spare mech I was going to fit but think I prefer the 'clean' look.. |
