2007 Sport Combi Ice Tail lights

A guy who works in the USA said that in Detroit Michigan he is seeing a ton of Sport Combis with the Ice tail lights. He even stated that GM has a US spec SC in their lobby in Warren Michigan with Ice tail lights. Are these now available for aftermarket sale or factory optioned? The saab usa website shows no ice tail lights at all. He also said he is noticing a huge number of SC with the V6, as noted by the dual exhaust. I have no way to discredit his claims, just wondering.

Wouldn't surprise me that he's seen a lot of SCs with "icelights" (or a high number of Aero SCs) in Detroit-SCUSA is now headquartered there, so I'm sure there are lot of corporate SCs outfitted with such. They're probably used by corporate execs, or press vehicles.

However, icelights are still illegal in the US, and cannot be purchased Stateside. They CAN be imported (through online websites)-but their prices are double what SCUSA was selling them for (because the lenses and assemblies are sold separately online, whereas SCUSA was selling them as an entire unit at half the price).

To be clear (!) Having clear taillight lenses is not itself illegal in the US - witness the myriad Toyota and Lexus models with these, just to name some. The problem is that Saab never got USDOT certification for them in the US and therefore it's not legal for Saab USA to be selling them to customers.

They are ONLY AVAILABLE for the SportCombi, which itself was based on the 9-3 SportHatch concept car (that had ICE LIGHTS). It was never meant to be for the 9-3SS/CV.

I saw one the other day here in LA w/ those rear lights... It was a new SC model and didn't pay that much attention to it, just thought they were aftermarket...

Like I said, when SCUSA was sellling them in the accessories catalog, it was $450 for BOTH!

I had a friend of mine who bought them for his new '06 Aero SC and had them installed at the dealer the day they were told to pull them off the shelves.

If only I had bought them when I had the chance......now, it's just too expensive to get them. I'd rather spend that money on an ECU upgrade (whenever a US version is available).

Thanks for all the replies.

I will have to see if I can't come up with something from the guys over at the factory. They should know if they are shipping export vehicles with Ice tail lights.

My dealer has been outfitting almost all the SC's with such lights.

They have also been fitting many SC's with 18" rims and tires, tint and the lights as a package.

I'd love to see these as well, problem is I never see any SC's on the road. I live in Atlanta and have yet to see one on the road since it's been released, the same goes for the re-designed 9-5 and have seen one 9-7, and I spend a lot of time commuting. Can't imaging how bad the sales numbers are on these vehicles.

They are factory accessories. My dealer have them as $282 per piece.

I would like to have a pair if I have extra $600 to spend.

I wonder, my Ice Tail Lights have LED's in them, do you have LED's in the normal back lights?
