Default Steering Wheel Lock - Strange Problem

Apparently, the steering wheel lock malfunction issue is pretty common based on the number of threads on the issue. However, my problem is a little different. It only happens when my wife drives the car (03 Linear), never me. (She, of course, says I do something to the car hoping that it would deter her from wanting to drive it. ) Seriously, this only happens when she drives. We've switched keys and it still happens. Could there be something about the way she uses the key or starts the car that would account for this?

C'mon, tell us how you do this so we can prevent our wives from driving our cars .

But seriously, the only thing I can think of is that she is rushing the process more than you; perhaps you pause for a second between inserting the key, and trying to turn it?

Just a thought...

It could be that she parks propperly. You know turn the wheel and place the tire to the curb. Or it could be that she grabs the wheel when she exits the car and locks the wheel against the torque of the tires.

The latter is what I do all the time. I stop the car and then out of habbit for security porpose I turn the wheel till it locks. Some times there is enough pressure against the lock pin at this point that it cannot relese when you insert the key unless you turn the wheel enough to give it some slack.

This happens to me often. I have gotten to where I listen for the mechanical noise of the relese as I insert the key. If I don't hear it I pull the wheel a little and then turn the key.

What are the particular times she drives - for example - do you drive it to work and she takes it on the weekends - anything like that - I had a MY 05 Saab that only had problems when it was parked in the sun for extended periods of time on hot days - any other time it was stellar - unless you have some different procedure for starting the car (hard to imagine) - it has to be something quirky like that - I also got a letter about the steering column lock sensor posssibly being cracked during the manufacturing process - perhaps you have one of those - or maybe you have a descendant of Christine and she doesn't like your wife!! Spooky!
