i have a stupid question- what does the air intake do? what are the benefits of a custom one? Is it worth buying/making one? It it really as easy to make as it seems?

The way an engine makes power is by combining air with fuel. More air=more fuel=more power... At least in theory.
In SAAB's it's a bit more complicated due to the Trionic system that manages the engine. You won't really gain any extra power, however, you will gain more of a performance sound (a deep tone when the throttle is wide open), and you'll hear the turbo spooling more clearly. It's not difficult to make an intake, you just have to make sure that the pipe going to the MAF/MAP (airflow) sensor is the same diameter as what the stock pipe was before you removed it or the car won't like it, at all. There are threads regarding this, you should use the search feature. http://www.saabcentral.com/forums/sh...t=short+intake

Thanks Nocturne, I have actually read the thread you posted, but still wasn't quite sure as to what I would be doing for my car if I did, in fact, add an air filter. Now that I know, I may just have to give it a closer look!

Hey everyone, quick question. If you know anything let me know
Im looking to get this car 2005 Saab 9-3 Linear 2.0t (4dr) oil sprayed under the body, the dealership said it was garonteed no rust for 10 years on this model as there is a coating on the bottom. Took it to my friends shop today and they checked it over 2 strips are sprayed with a coating on the bottom but nothing else. A few signs of surface rust are there. Is there any reason why I shouldnt get this oil spray done? My other friend had his g6 GTP sprayed today, and had it done last year. I live in Canada, Ontario where they salt the roads constantly. Any ideas?? Thanks a lot!! |

I have a quick Question.
Recently after filling up my car with gas the low fuel light come on and goes down to empty. I think the problem is with the seal that gas cap is making with the tank. My question is has anyone else had this problem? and how would i go about fixing this short of buying a new gas cap? |

Sounds like you're "sending unit" or "float" as some people call it has stopped working. It has nothing to do with the gas cap.
Price to have the sending unit replaced (part that tells the fuel gage how much gas is in the tank) is about $300 Canadian if you DON'T go to the dealer.

Thank you for the quick response. The gas cap often feels loose which is why i originally thought that was the problem

My stupid question for the day:
Is it safe to use the handbrake when messing around in the snow (or any wet conditions)? Last night we got a bit of snow and I used it a little when messing around on some side streets by my house, but I was hesitant to crank it all the way to get the rear end out and sliding. |

I'm not familiar with the 04, but my 07 will detect that the brake light is out and compensate for it with the turn and running lights, so it will still look good but the bulb is out. |

So the traction contro failure message comes on in my car immediately when i turn it on and drive. Ive read up a bit on it but others problems seem way worse than mine. My q8estion is, could it just be a bad sensor? Or does it maybe have something to do with my tires being bad since my car shakes? what should be my next move?
Another question: My cd wont come out. Any suggestions? |

Ok mine does the same, I checked the bulb... it was fine. I changed it anyways and it still works and I still get the Left Brake Light Failure... Is this a issue with the wiring perhaps?
Although about a week ago I thought Id check again and when I turned on the car the left brake light took 5 sec or so to come on... once on it worked fine. I don't know what the deal is but Im getting tired of hitting clear every time I get in the car. |
