Default New rims missing center caps

Dear all,

I bought recently 4 new aero/SPG wheels (pre 87 fix - # 89 85 970) without the center caps (# 89 85 996). I am trying to find them in ebay, local providers, internet providers but ... nothing.

Rims: http://jpowell.tripod.com/saab-wheels/#spg

Somebody knows if I can use another center cap from another rim? I can easily find the
# 89 87 620 cap (the standard for some rims) but this one is not valid for my rims.

Any ideas?

many thanks

Wheel caps from the common "sunburst" wheels (pic below) are similar and should be easily available at the breakers. AFAIK, only the colour codes are different. Worth checking them out.

I tried with this ones from a Sunburst, P/N # 89 87 620 but nothing ... are smaller so I am not able to fit them ...

I thought the only difference was the color code but it isn't ...

You're right ivan they are a bit smaller.. I had the same problem. You can get them from a saab dealer...they're rediculious for what they are, but all in all NOT that bad. I was a senior in HS when I bought mine, so I was broke and still remember thinking it wasn't allt hat bad.

Unfortunately the local Saab dealer here in Spain told me that this part is not available anymore ...

You're absolutely right ! I pulled a sunburst wheel out (PCD 108) and tried to fit the pre-'87 SPG/Aero cap onto the sunburst, but it didn't fit.

I got a set on ebay. They will come up from time to time if you wait long enough. I have seen them at a rate of a least one set every month or so. Watch in the states under Saab Wheels. Same for UK. They go for from about $10US to about $20US plus shipping. What is the outside diameter of that hub cover in inches? Other covers may work as well. The 9000 aero hub cover is 6.5 inches. The newer SPG/Aero 88-93 are also 6.5 inches.

Good Luck

Try the classifieds on Saabnet.com, too.

I was able to rehab a slightly bad set that came with my directionals by wet sanding them, spraying with silver paint and then a couple of coats of polyurethane on top. They look pretty good now. So, if you find some that are in decent shape but are pealing or faded, take them and fix 'em.

Well, it depends on what year of Sunbusrt wheel you are trying the cap from. If it's a pre '87 sunburst wheel, I've found that they are identical to the pre '87 SPG wheel center cap. The Sunbusrt in the picture above is a 88+ wheel (it has the alignment hole) It will not fit.

The caps will be the same for up to 1987
And the caps will be the same for the '88-93 range.

But they aren't interchangable.

That close up picture of the cap above is a pre '87 type. The post 87 type don't have the radiating "splines" onthe backside, it's just flat.

I have an extra SPG rim pre-88 cap.

1987 rims are same as 1986...

You can also fit caps off a US Turbo rim, with the exposed lugs. The centre is slightly too large, so you need to kinda "knock" it in, and it's somewhat tight. But it does work (though I've never driven like that) and it looks "unique".

Many thanks to all, I contacted yesterday again and Internet dealer ... partsfor*** ... and I think they have it .... so finally I think I will be able to change my super-inca for my new brand SPG rims.

In any case I will check if sunburst pre-88 fit SPG pre-88 to have extra caps in case i'll need it.

Thank very much.
