Default Someone hit my baby today :(

I figured it would happen sooner or later, parking in a high school parking lot, but it happened today. I walked out and saw a note on my car: "I hit your bumper sorry". It's on the left rear corner of the bumper, scraped some paint off, left plenty of his paint on my car, and popped out the bumper a little bit, as in, near the wheel well the bumper part sticks out.

I'm not as angry as I thought i would be if that happened. I think i'm just glad to find that there are people at my school decent enough to leave their name and phone number (I've seen plenty of accidents happen right before my eyes where the person just drives off). I had an appointment at the dealer to have my sticking handbrake looked at anyway, so i can see what it'll cost to fix.

Reminds me of when I was in university sophomore year (way back in the 80s ... 1980s that is) and I was driving my trusty '85 Mazda GLC. One day I found a note on my windshield, written by a girl who said she hit my bumper while parking and gave me her name and tel #. The damage was hardly noticeable and I wasn't even keen to fix it (but I was curious to see what she looked like ). So I called her up and she agreed to meet me the next day. Well aside from the fact she agreed for me to get a body shop quote and pay whatever the repair was worth, I can't honestly remember what happened with her after that incident.

But yeah, the world is still a good place to be in as long as there are honest people out there with integrity !

hah, no unfortunately it's not a cute girl. I know the guy who did it, and he's pretty cool and easygoing. I called him up today to talk to him, and i could tell from his voice he sounded nervous. I was nice, told him s*** happens, and thanks for leaving the note, but I did get his insurance info.

Also, I don't think i would date any girl who would intentionally hit my car. All my friends (and girlfriend) know how obsessive I am about my car.

I'm surprised my car did not get hit during high school. I parked at the end of a straight section of the parking lot right next to a speed bump. People would come flying by inches from my car to go around the bump.

none of my saabs were hit during my high school, surprising. As many as 75% of my friends have had car accidents or bangs of some kind. Terrible drivers i tell you! lots of other cars were hit. Really nice they left a note.

I backed into a car once, got out and saw no damage where I knew I had hit the car. It was a really old volvo and had some damage to one side of the bumper (impossible to have been caused by my car). They had a window sticker with a skull on it and the rear windows were tinted. Out of fear of them ripping me off for previous damage I just left, it was the smallest tap. I swore if I ever hit a car I would leave a note-but sometimes i think there are exceptions.

When I used to valet park, I'd bump 1-2 cars a day. That might suprise some of you, but that was normal for everyone. Many times valet lots can be extremely tight, and parking all sizes of vehicles isn't easy. I'm not saying I don't trust valet parking, but its stuff that happens.

I got clipped in the parking lot the other day. I'd just repainted my bumpers and all the side pannels and had it looking all sharp and slick and I come out and sombody had clipped my drivers side rear side pannel/bumper. Thats what you get for trying to make your car look nice. lol (no number either)

It wasn't bad, it was just kind of depressing to have gone to all the trouble of unbolting both bumpers and all the side pannels and cleaning all the road tar off and sanding them down and repainting them and then within a week or so have sombody smash'em up again.

Life goes on.

i had an issue with some guy like 2 weeks ago...i was making a left out of a wawa(for those of you that dont know what that is its like a 7-11) some guy in a work pick up that looked like it had been stoned on a daily basis was trying to squeeze by to make a right. of corse he bumped me...

"did that guy just hit me?"
"yeah i think so"
guy in truck-" sorry"

and then he drove away...

"nobody hits my f!*%&* car!"

luckily the saab amazing turning radius got me turned in the opposite direction. after he realized that i was pissed he pulled into the sholder and got out. there was no damage...i mean my car isnt nearly new but i love it....

Thats a bloody hit and run! He could have gotten a stiff ticket + fine for that, especially if the cops came to the accident site.

Whoever left the note/name/# was a class act. Most people ignore their responsibility in such a circumstance and drive off.

do valet services have to have insurance? What happens when you park a brandnew car and put a scratch in it? Do you just say "that was there when it came in" or does the insurance pay for it?

Oh yeah? ask any valet drivers in a crowded parking lot, they might be afraid to tell ya .. ok, i didn't happen often, and if it did it was the slightest tap that you wouldn't notice, but it did happen.

They absolutely have insurance. One guy ripped a mirror completely off of a car, and the valet company took car of it no problem. Accidents do happen, but they're rare. Most valet drivers are pretty good at parking jobs, especially when you have inches to work with and you're double parking cars 2-3 deep.

I'm impressed.

I get pissed off on a daily basis, because around here people consider hitting cars "just a part of parking" and most people even do it intentionally when parallel to "feel" where the spot ends

I know accidents happen, but the fact that people are intentionally hitting my car makes me absolutley furious.

It would be nice to for a change actually have someone accidentally hit my car instead of intentionally doing it, and being a good enough person to take responsibility for it and leave a note.

Well matt, you do live in Cambridge, and most people have their noses pretty far up their asses there.

Man, when I first saw this thread I was flipping out. I seriously thought someone hit your baby. Like an infant baby...not the car type. Eesh, what a relief.
