Default Date of manufacture- which letter?

From the chassis no, which no or letter determines month and yr of manufacture? This is to find out if my 99 has tax exempt status ie before 1st Jan 1973

Oh, and where is the chassis no on a '73 99 ops:

Ken,
I'm sure the chassis number is under the bonnet along the inner wing join, not sure which side off hand though.

The previous owners of my car proved the date of manufacture by going through the Saab owner's club. Try e-mailing the Saab 99 registrars. If you're not a member maybe I could e-mail them for you and find out what's what. I think they need membership number in all correspondance though.

I'd be very sure yours was made in '72. It looks earlier than mine as it has the all metal grille. Mine was made in Dec '72 so I just scraped it on the tax exemption, hooray

on mine its the nearside, it's a simple chassis number, only including the model year, plant line code, and a serial number.

if it starts 9972, it is a '72 model year car, so will certainly be exempt
