Hi all, I have owned my 9-5 for a year now (cheers goes to Chris and the frog man for helping sorting out the problems and questions on the workshop forum) and have been thinking about tuning for the last couple of months. I've decided to go ahead after this month's pay cheque.
I can't do all the works I want to all at once because of budget. Engine seem to be the first step, I'd like your opinions on if these tuning sets I selected make sense? P.S the car is a '98 2.3lpt manual shift with 95K on the clock - BSR Stage 1 via PPC - Forge Dump Valve (any performace gain apart from it being more durable?) - JR open intake / airfilter or an itg performance filter. I can't decide on which one. Which might give better performance and noise? This should fill my budget of £700 to start with. How does it sound? I will move onto Exhaust (current one is rusty already) and suspension next. Also, has any one fitted a kit called Taliaferro Sport transmission mount? Supposed to give a bit better feel on a manual. What's the general view about fuel cleaner/ additives? Is it worth it or total waste of money? Cheers. Last edited by Katsura; 21-04-06 at 09:18 PM. |

In answer to your questions.......
No noticeable performance difference with a Forge D/V (despite what Forge claim), the pshhh sound is very different from the standard Bosch unit when you run an open air filter. (they sure do look purdy though) Don't think JR do an open air filter for the 9-5, just a drop in replacement. The rest of them are much of a muchness really, so long as they have a 3" inlet then alls good, you have the ITG, K&N and Green range to choose from. (i've just ordered a Green cone filter model no K6.75) Dave (DJ53) has fitted the Taliaferro sport mount, if i recall he said it has improved the gearchange quite nicely, but was a real pita to fit. Only additive i use is injector cleaner, a shot every 3 months or so. |

Kermit,
When you say makes the gear change feel better, in what way does it make it feel better? Is it more firm? I always feel like Saab transmissions are kinda loosey goosey... |

Best ask DJ53, i've got a porridge gearbox (auto) that does all the thinking for me.
