Default Are 9000's German?

Most of the parts on my 94 9000 CSE FPT are labeled "Made in West Germany".

I am just wondering, are our 9000's german made?

thanks

Wink

Engine and tranny is made in Germany. My guess is after GM purchase they moved engine manufacture to a Opel factory. Body is a joint venture with Alfa Romeo, Laconia and Saab designed in Italy. But finaly assembly is in Troll. Sweden

Car was mainly for the European market. That is why it is so nimble and sporty for such a large car! It was also SAAB's first large car.

yeah 3600lb beast.....you wouldn't know it judging from the lack of cabin space inside....

and nimble is a poor word...this car is a beast on the highway...I can handle with the bimmers and benzes easily...and thats even on stock suspension

You think a 9000 LACKS cabin space?? I am 6' and 216 lbs. and i fit better in the back seat of my '95 9000 Aero than ANY 5 series BMW, Subaru Legacy, ANY midsized OR LARGE SUV! Cheack the seating room in a 9000 Vs. most vehicles!

Nimble MEANS good handling! Especialy for 3600 lbs, safe to boot.

my Lexus GS400 owned my 9000's cabin space....hell even my Infiniti QX4 runs circles around it (but the reclining rear seats do help )

I dunno...I am 5'10" about 220 and I'm good up front, but that leaves my rear passengers knees in my kidneys if they sit behind me....

still an awesome car tho.....definitely ahead of it's time

Huh......

I thought 9000 manual gearboxes were made at the Saab gearbox plant in Sweden, and only the automatic's were German, being a ZF unit.
9000 engines were made in Sweden as well.....except for maybe the V6?

Laconia......I think you mean Lancia

NT2SHBBY....which parts exactly say made in West Germany?

I have the original window sticker off my '95 Aero and in the US they have to list majior componets build origin. It says body Sweden and says Engine and tranny Germany?? That is what I based it on?

I remember reading that when saab released the 9000, it was the first car they made that fitted the US classification of "Large Car" (classification was based on cabin space only).
I know that the back seat of my Aero is more comfortable and roomy than my parents LR Disco Series II...

i dunno..my Lexus GS400 was physically bigger (inside and out), inches wider and a couple hundred lbs heavier than my 9000 and it's considered a medium sized car....

on a side note, I would like it if the 9000 was just a tad wider. If my father and I both get in the car, our arms almost overlap each other (which is the ONLY) reason why I am glad this car has no armrest

It's not exactly fair to compare a twenty or so year old design with that Lexus.
I can tell you the interior space of my 9K is better than my 86 Mercedes 300SDL, which while probibly smaller than your GS was a BIG car in it's day for Europe. Neither of them naturaly hold a candle to my 78 Lincoln, but apples and oranges.

The space they get out of cars these days is impresive, but at what cost...
