I am on the verge of getting a Superchip fitted to my 96 900 SET (+40BHP). Is this £511 well spent. Any opinions welcome.
Cheers Rob |

Rob,
The Stage one kit is £150 cheaper and gives you +42Bhp. Simon. |

Rob, I'm jealous!
A friend of mine recently had the Superchip for his normally aspirated NG900 ('97) and it made quite a reasonable difference. To be fair, it only promised a 10bhp gain and a slightly improved torque curve, but it made it quite a bit more driveable! ...but Simon is right, the option for the turbo is significanlty cheaper for more or less the same increase. With the money you save you could drive North for the Ruby before the Ruby event and buy the northern massive a beer! Mark P |

Interesting, where do I find weblink/phone number. I can get the Superchip fitted 18 miles down the road but I am always up for saving £150.

Thanks Mark, I have just dropped Elkparts a line for some more info.
I would love to attend the Ruby but I am not sure if I can get the time off work. I'll run it past the Misses, perhaps after I get the chip I am after Cheers Rob |

Living in the US, who would sell me a chip for my normally aspirated 1996 900s (2.3)???? 10hp or more would be great! Are there any bad side effects, short or long term?

It's actually that you need. (Elkparts are the UK based dealer). The website lists two US dealers: http://www.engstrom.net/ http://www.genuinesaab.com/ Happy hunting! Mark P |

I am on the verge of ordering the chip/ecu just worrying that the clutch and other mechanical parts of my GM900T are up to the extra horses. The clutch is fine at the moment.
As the Speed parts kit come with an increased flow airfilter and would save me quite a few quid is it worth doing anything to the exhaust at the same time as I am already paying to have it fitted. Cheers Rob |

Well I have just done a U turn and booked my car in to have a Superchip fitted next Wednesday, as in the end it worked out about the same price as the one. With the chip my insurance would have gone up £102 and I would have had to pay to have it fitted and have an engineers report done for the insurance company so the £150 difference would have been well eaten into. For me the Superchip insurance scheme was the same as my current insurance and the price for the chip includes fitting and a years guarenttee for it and any damaged it could do to my engine. Plus I can just drive in have it done at Falmouth (18 miles away) no hassles.
I am already getting excited Cheers Rob |

Hi Rob
The place where I had mine done (ooops, I was trying to keep it quiet!) He's just agreed to re-run the car this afternoon after I discovered that my air filter was blacker than a black thing in a pitch-black cave, at night..... and my new ITG air filter from Abbott has made a noticable difference. I'll reveal the figures when I get back. |

I think I have just found a good independant Saab specialist in Truro which is reasonably close. I haven't been there yet just spoke to them on the phone but they definately have the nothing is to much trouble attitude which had got me on side already. I tell more after I have my first major service done by them June/July time. When I got my car I took it to the AA centre at the local Halfords who seem to have done a competant enough job on a minor service. Thanks for the chip help all. Air filter and Exhaust are next on the list when I have sold something to pay for it. My Sat Nat is on borrowed time I think Cheers Rob |

This thingy, I bought it to go on my bikes but I have used it in the car once. Clever bit of kit but it gathers dust more that it gets used.

Well had the Superchip (2 superchips actually) fitted today. Is was interesting to find out how this is done. Apparantly the dealer keeps a range of chips of differing types then when they fit a chip they contact Superchip's then download the correct software for the car they are working on and write it to the chip(s). Cool if it works first time but as is always the case things never always go to plan. It took the dealer multiple attempts to download the correct software and serveral trial and error sessions with my car to get it right. What all this meant for me is that I had a 4 hour wait before I could drive away with the finished article fitted. I am not complaining as I was well looked after (tea and magazines) kept updated and apologised to on several occasions. As sods law would have it the Audi A4 that was also there being chipped only took an hour
The end result was a 50% increase in boost. The car has been transformed. These are only my first experiences on the dark, wet, congested 18 mile trip home. The car is a lot easyier to drive slowly (if that makes any sort of sense) more tracktable and a lot more torque. I only opened it up a couple of times to pass stuff on the way home and it took off like a scoulded cat, WOW BIG FECKIN GRINS. The second time I put my foot down in 3rd to pass a line of traffic it wheelspun quite dramatically on the edge of some chevrons which definately increased my puckker factor, then had me laughing like to Toe Cutter from Mad Max. It is still early days yet but on first impressions I am delighted with the Superchip even if it did take up the proceeds of 6 weeks overtime. I think I will never sell this car Cheers Rob |
