Hello everyone. Need some info from the experts here. My 2001 95 SID unit has gone dead with most of the pixels missing. I took it to a local mechanic who tried to check the cable but no go.
I saw at partsforsaabs.com that they have a new replacement unit but it is a SID2 unit which, according to the picture they have, is a 5-button unit. Mine is a four button unit so I think it is a SID1 unit. The difference as far as I can tell is that the SID2 has an extra button "Set" next to the "Clear" button whereas mine has only the "Clear" buttons, "<" & ">" buttons and a "Night Panel" button. Can anyone tell me if my car can accept the SID2 unit? Thank you. |

Your car will accept the SID 2 but will need to 'married' to the new unit. Either a dealership or someone with a tech 2 should be able to do this for you. Replaced mine about a year ago and was charged €60 for the dealer to reprograme.

If you swap a SID2 for another SID2 do you have to bring it to someone with Tech 2 or will they just change over?
