I am a previous Saab owner itching to get back in the game.
After reviewing the VIN on a Saab for sale near my neighborhood, I have found a '94 900S convertible. It's not a commemorative, but I'm okay with that, it's a Classic 900S. My last Saab was an '86 900S that I loved dearly, but was rapidly approaching clunker stage and I had to cut loose because I couldn't do the necessary maintainence on my own, which was part of the deal with my wife. Here's my dilemma: I now have to figure out how to justify the '94 to the wife. I have set an upper-limit on what I'm willing to pay for it (which is heart-breakingly low, unfortunately) to please the Mrs., now I need to justify the future maintainence. Can I expect many of the same problems I had with the '86, or were there many internal and mechanical changes made in those 7 years of production? Any input would be appreciated. |

Hi, you will find my comments of little practical use !
IMHO there aren't many cars around nowerdays that have any character, but the classic 900 is one of the few left (alfas, 911, 80s merc sl) IF you buy a mechanically sound car at a good price (that's 2 ifs!) you may find that what you pay out in maintenance offsets what you save in depreciation. I've found that if I keep my saabs a couple of years then after I get hit with all the hidden things that wore out for the last owner, I have a pretty sound car that is a joy to own, and that I would hate to sell. I'd say, introduce your wife to driving the saab so she loves it too! |
