I have a 9-3ss and do not know much about the 9-5's. I am looking at a 2002 Linear 9-5 wagon for my wife. It only has 12k miles and is Saab Certified. Are there any issues with this year or things I should look for? What do you think is a reasonable price for a Certified vehicle from a dealer?

With only 12k miles on it, i'd expect it to be fault free. There are sludge issues with all non Aero models, but all this requires is frequent oil changes with fully synthetic and keeping an eye out for the condition of the PCV pipework. Price? I'll leave that to our US based owners, i have no idea what 9-5's go for in your half of the world.

In the long run the Linear's turbo is known to go out around 70-80k miles...I'd go for an Aero if possible. As for price, you can find 2002 Linears for as low as $12,000, not Saab certified.

Don't panic Juz, i'm on 107k with original turbo. Regular oil changes and letting the turbo cool after spirited driving are the key to long turbo life.

I'd expect to pay anywhere between 12-16k for an 02 linear wagon.

Don't know if you are aware of it, but you have a great saab resource about 15 miles away from you in Marietta, PA. Check out www.swedishmotors.com.
I used to live in the Harrisburg region. These guys helped me out with my 12 year old Saab 900 Turbo. Great people. They know Saabs. |
