Default cabin fan stuck ON

recently my cabin fan decided to not turn off anymore.

it stays on even when the key is removed from the ignition.

the fans blows full blast at all times. on the ACC, i can still set temperatures, and zones (face, foot, defrost). i can not change the speed of the fan with the ACC. when i turn the ACC to OFF, the fan continues to blow, and i am guessing just air from the outside, because it's usually cold. the air will blow from whichever zone i had it last on before turning it off.

i tried holding, i believe the ON and AUTO buttons, which made 00 come up on the screen as it tested and calibrated. this did not solve anything.

my solution has been to remove, or insert the cabin fan fuse whenever necessary.

any clue?

It's probably the fan speed controller module....

My fan apparently did this then stopped alltogether....

I had the same problem this summer. The fan eventually drained the battery and had to jump start. I too had to remove the fuse to stop the fan from running, and it was running at high speed.

Took it to the dealer, and they replace the ACC module ($500) under warranty.

I picked up the car after the repair and guess what, the fan wouldn't blow at all. They claimed that the new ACC module failed again.

They replaced it again and it's been good so far.

This is a very bad design. The ACC fan should not be allowed to run when the ignition key is out.

$500... eugh. Unless there's something I don't know about, there's no warranty left on my car.

I'll probably have to rig a makeshift switch somewhere, because that's an expensive repair hardly worth the cost.

Saabs are making me sad lately...

I think these ACC controllers should be available at the yards of junk.

Assure that it is not a bad resistor (much, much cheaper than a computer)..
The trouble with dealers is that they just want to replace everything - regardless of cost. $500, way too much ! Does this include all the necessary labor and testing ??
Better to test and diagnose...

i was just about to buy a new resistor pack, so that i could get my cabin fan to stop running on high all the time without yanking the fuse. well, sadly, i stumbled across another website recently that suggests replacing a fan speed control module to alleviate the problem instead. here's some sites:

fan speed control module:
http://photo.platonoff.com/Auto/2006...ontrol_Module/

resistor pack sites:
http://www.thesaabsite.com/93/93fans...eplacement.htm
http://www.saabcentral.com/~munki/technical/interior/replacing_fan_resistor.htm

now i don't know which to buy!

additionally, i couldn't find anybody selling the fan speed control module online..

i see a resistor pack once in awhile on ebay, and the guy from the resistor pack guide site also seems to sell them..

anyone have an personal experience with this utterly annoying problem??

*edit: i read back through the thread, looks like mike saunders had the same problem. where'd you get the module mike?
