Default Masive Power Steering Leak

Yesterday my distributor was acting up and ended my 300 mile drive in the middle. Nothing I could fix on the side of the freeway in the dark. The real problem is that as the car bucked and died I guess I got a little frustrated and managed to throttle the steering wheel, pulling it about 4 inches up and out. I pushed it back in and it steered normal after, but I lost all steering fluid in an hour.
Any guesses as to what I've ruptured or destroyed before I crawl under the beast.

WOW!

I'd guess you ripped out the seal that holds the pinion inside?

You ripped out the sterring wheel gulp! no mean feat i have to say

Do you turn green by any chance when your upset.

how did you get home after your distributor failed.

I think if you pulled out the wheel chances are something was ready to break anyway so dont worry about it to much, you just caught a problem that would have happened somewhere down the line.

With that merry stunt...

I would say that you would have gone a long way towards ruining/damaging the teflon rings and or the valve/pinion assy.
Having rebuilt a rack once, I can offer you my deepest sympathies.
Not a nice feeling!

I know! Its kind of embarrasing. Thankfully I do have a decen rack on a parts car and I sort of was realising that I needed to pull my engine anyway...

I was under the impression that if you pulled on the steering wheel that they come loose from time to time?

I'm prob wayyyyy off here, but the actual wheel slid up tward you right?

My sisters old saab 900's wheel slides tward you if you pull on it to get out of the car (i tell her thats bad all the time) is this what you mean?

Just curious so i can call my sister and tell her not to drive :-P
