Hi guys i am sure with the wealth of knowledge out their someone will be able to advise me. We have just bought an Escort estate for my wifes business it is a 2000 1.6 zetec. in a morning it will fire up but will not idle it is ok when warm but the cold start appears not to be working. It has FSH and i see it has recently (june) had a new cold start valve fitted but this seems not to have cured it. The car also seems a little lacking to me but maybe that is because i am used to quicker things....It was fully serviced in june according to the receipts.The car has 42k on it...any ideas i went on the ford forum but i got bored of trying to find the right info (not very user friendly) cheers in advance.

I don't know the solution to your problem, but I used to be a member of the
ford mondeo enthusists group, they use a similar zetec engine so perhaps someone there can help you with your problem, generally they are good with technica information

I know this is a common fault with late escorts with 1.6 engines I am sure you will find a cure on the net somewhere.

Cheers guys ...it does seem that it is a historic problem from what i gather,,,, which is a shame really as i bought a ford expecting it to be "cheap" to run....But at the mileage it has done and the comprehensive history it has it is taking the golden rain slightly......

Fair enough, it's not often you see Ford and enthusiasm in the same phrase,
just that is the biggest ford site with technical forums I know of,
and not all mondeo (contour?) drivers are sales reps
