Default fugly chrome 'do over'--any experiences?

Seriously thinking of taking the chrome bits of my car, ESPECIALLY the window trim and door handles, sanding in with 600 grit paper and spraying in flat black....

I could do the grill, and side molding inserts too and maybe do tires something dark, but that may be going too far...but the window chrome and door handles...how tacky!

its a 1990 900S, and my 1991 900 has the black and looks sharp!

anyone success or failure stories?

J

Painting the metal chrome door handles has a low probability of long-term success. I'd try to find some black handles off a junker and replace them. It's easy.

And, if you are thinking of painting the bumper covers, try to fill the cracks a little with something (I don't know what would work best). I saw a bull-nosed (1986 or older) c900 recently with the back bumper painted. From 10 feet it looked OK, but close-up it looked bad in my opinion. The cracks were more noticeable.

My two cents.

I use Autoglym bumper care on all the black trim, Aero bodykit, tyre sidewalls and spoiler. It's excellent stuff - it not only makes black stuff black again, but the water beads off it like when you wax the car.
