Default Scottish Concorde Trip - 18th June

Hello boys and girls,

I've spoken to the Museum of Flight at East Fortune (http://www.nms.ac.uk/flight/index.asp ) regarding a potential Saab visit.

The costs would be £5 per person to enter the museum plus £3 to visit the Concorde Experience. If there are more than 10 bodies then we get a 10% discount. A complication is that the Concorde Experience must be booked and paid for in advance (with no refunds) and we can only attend when they have space to fit us in. This, obviously, makes planning a visit much more difficult.
I'm keen to get ideas from folks as to how we can address this problem and, also, when people would like to attend. Do you want to make a Scottish weekend of it and build in a scenic tour and beer consumption evening?
Please let me know your thoughts and I can start to pull together an event.

I'd be up for that (along with my partner and our 16-month old daughter, camera, packed lunch, baby buggy, changing bag, milk bottles, dummys.........) but we could do with a decent bit of notice so we can arrange accommodation etc.

To ensure that we get access to Concorde for all interested parties I would think that we'll need to give them plenty of notice and also avoid Bank Holiday weekends. Sometime in May perhaps?

Sounds like a great idea....

We've already been to visit concorde twice in the time she's been there (its a 140 mile round trip), and as she is due to be fully open soon, sounds good.

If it's gonna cause a problem waiting on the museum coming up with a date, why not set a date that suits those interested and go along each paying their own enterance fee.

The easter hols are coming up soon, and she is likely to be open for all the kids coming to see her.

We'll be going through during the holidays anyway, but wouldn't mind making an excuse to go through again, if needs be.

Sorry Tweeks, I was waiting on more responses to see if there were any ideas that might simplify the planning. I'll move it along now.
Klarking, unfortunately it's a requirement that we book and pay for the Concorde visit in advance. I know from experience that many folks put their names down for events in good faith but can't make it on the day and, as I'll probably be paying for everyone in advance, I'll end up out of pocket.

Hi Gordy,

I think I may have been misinterpreted, what I was suggesting was an informal arrangement, i.e. the NMF know nothing about the visit and begin to wonder why there are so many saabs in the car park. That way, if people show up then good, if they don't no one is out of pocket....

But if it needs to be done the other way, then let us know how to pay you, and if the car is out the <censored> garage, we will be there.

Cheers

Kenneth

Hi folks,

Apologies for the delay in posting details, a combination of work and car problems has been distracting me.

I've booked 15 places on Concorde at 13:30 on Saturday 18th June. At the moment I've booked them all as adult seats but I can change that once I've got an idea of who is going and if there are any children or pensioners. Currently there are more seats available on that date but these will disappear the closer we get to the date. It turns out I can pay on the day so that simplifies things as long as we've booked in advance.

I propose that we meet at 10am in the car park at the Hermiston Gait shopping centre which is located just off the Edinburgh City Bypass (A720). EH11 4DF will find it on Multimap. We set off in convoy for the air museum at 10:30am. That should give us plenty of time to get to the airfield, have a nose around each others cars, chat, have a look at some other exhibits etc before getting on Concorde. The Concorde experience only lasts 15 mins so there's plenty of time to see the rest of the museum before it closes at 5pm.

If anyone wants to add anything to the event ie evening meal or similar, let me know and I can investigate options.

As always, add your name if you are interested, along with a note as to how many bodies you will be bringing and how many of them are eligible for concessions.

.............then there's the Concorde that lives at Filton, Bristol, where it was constructed, of course. Open to the public, I see it everyday and it is parked on the opposite side to the runway where I work, looking very, very sad, lonely, and wasted, in stark contrast to celebrations, when it flew back home for the last time .

Zaphod,

I think that would be a bit of a long journey from Edinburgh - But maybe some day.
