This puts the 9-7x Arc at 10 grand less than a standard equiped V8 SRX. This I believe is a great price point for a vehicle w/ 6500 pound towing capacity. After option adds and discount deducts, this is likely to be near $38,500 out the door. What a bargain.

damn. i thought it would be about 2k cheaper. it's not like it comes standard with everything.
Price isn't too competitive when you compare it to vehicles like the MDX and Touareg |

Well the V6 compares favorably to the two. The V8 is very competitive, given that the MDX doesn't offer one and the V8 Tourag is significantly more. I guess it comes down to how loaded they come and how much more options are. Brewman, where did you get this info? ANy pricing on options?

They actually sound like they will be pretty well equiped for those prices. Here is most of the press release from Saab:

I'm sure Saab knows they're not exactly going to be able to sell their SUV for what Volvo, VW, and others sell it for since the 9-7x is a truck-based platform and it lacks some other features the class does have. But for the price they set it's a steal. I would consider this over a Buick Rainier any day, even if it's a few grand more.

The advantage of 9-7X's body-on-ladder frame construction is its towing capacity, rated at around 6500 lbs for the V8 Arc, and approx. 6300 lbs for the I-6 Linear (TrailBlazer spec).
The MDX is good for up to 4500 lbs with the optional boat towing package. It's the only SUV in this group that doesn't offer a V8. The king kong of this group is the Toureg at 7716 lbs for all models from base with 220hp 3.2L V6 to the mighty V10 TDi (553 lb-ft @ 2,000 !!). The XC90 V8 will be good to only 5000 lbs, the non-V8 variants can tow up to 1,650 lbs for a trailer without brakes, and 3,970 lbs for a trailer with its own brakes on the FWD version and 4,960 pounds for the AWD version. The dog of the group is the Infiniti FX35 and FX45, both good to tow only 3500 lbs. |

It seems odd that the SUV with one of the weakest engines in its class can tow the most. No one in their right mind would tow 7000+ lbs. in their V6 Touareg. |

the saab won't be any better. and i'm pretty sure the Touareg is a better performer than the 9-7X could dream of
Squishman-the Toureg has terrible performance, it is way too heavy to perform. Coming from someone who worked for VW/Audi, the Saab will have much fewer problems. VW has more problems per vehicle then almost any other brand. Build quality is terrible, constantly in the shop. A long standing joke inside of VW is the ghost of german engineers live in VW's because of all the little annoying problems vdubs have.
