Hi all,
I have just swapped over my alternator (That was a nightmare job in itself)! Now the ABS warning lights are staying on, and the peddle is solid, braking is terrible. I have checked to see if I have disconnected anything. All looks good... Please any help, other wise a for sale sign is going in the window...! Cheers, Dan. (1990 900 Carlsson) |

check: reseat and lubricate the main abs connector on the LHS inner wing in engine bay.
i have had this while playing with the APC - if the connector is dirty or poorly seated, a tiny downward movement of the connector will Light the ABS lamp. judging by the area you're working in i'd suspect this first.. it's either 'coincidence' or something simple you've touched.. HTH |

it's a flat rectangular black connector attached to the abs pump block - it's connected on the front facing end of the block. located half way back along the inner engine bay wall LHS. if you reach under the alternator / inlet manifold it's right by your elbow - ideal for being knocked by mistake

Thanks for the Help.
I removed the ABS connector and cleaned, lubed and replaced. I now have full braking power, although the ABS light is still iluminated. The caution light has cleared. The car is not idleing correctly, and when on tickover there is a hissing noise that can be heard from the passenger side speaker, this dissapears when the car is revved. I think there may be a vacuum hose that is split that runs from the inlet manifold, just above the expansion bottle. Would the ABS light iluminate if there was a problem with any of the vacuum hoses? Cheers, Dan. |

AFIAK, the ABS light will not clear when the problem goes away. This is sensible with a safety system such as brakes. I think you need to have a saab dealer clear the light.
The hissing noise is most likely a vac leak. The vacuum take-off nipples are a bit delicate at times and it's quite possible you've broken or cracked one of these while hauling on the alternator. Start pinching vac hoses around the inlet manifold until the hissing stops. Then look for splits, breaks or cracks. |

Thanks for the info.
I have found the vacuum leak, that is now sorted, but as you say the ABS light is still iluminated. I will see if I can get it reset then. Cheers, Dan. |

the c900 system isn't that clever. it will reset itself on self test - you still have a niggly problem there.
at the time on my car you could switch the fault (and ABS light) 'on and off' by wiggling the connector while the engine was running.. Don't panic - i'm sure it's something you've dislodged while working in that area. check and clean every connection you can find in the area at least 15times |

OK, I'll give it a go later! 15 times it is then!
Thanks for the advice. Dan. |
