Default Break-in period--- how long and how soft?

I've just put 100km on the new Linear--- love it. The manual says 1600km at below 4000 rpm. Is everyone abiding by that? Some people say you should change the oil many times during that period. And I'd love to open the car up at some sustained speeds on tghe highway, but maybe I'll just have to wait. Anyway, I love the car--- super-punchy through the low gears, and drives on rails.
