Default Wards automotive 4th yr for Votrec 4200 I6

Wards Automotive has given GM's 4200 (4.2 Liter) in-line 6 cylinder engine a top 10 finish for the 4th consecutive year. This will be the base engine in the 9-7x at 275 horse and 275 torque, with the highly regarded 5.3 displacement on demand V8, being the upgrade option.

The I6 is not the base anymore. From what I read they are going only with the V8. I think the V8 is the best move.

Diesel. Hahahaha.

No one wants a diesel. Especially not yuppies buying $40,000 SUVs.

There doesn't seem to be any effort to market the I6 engine as a part of the 9-7X list of features. I don't know for sure, but I thought that I had read that V8 is the key engine, because it matches with the upcoming Volvo V8 XC90, plus it has the power numbers that steps it up from the crowd. They don't need the I6, it just brings about more identification with the Trailblazer vehicle.

With fuel costs where they are I sure as hell wouldn't mind one. You're right about the yuppies, I forget which country this thing is being sold in.

This, I am positive , is the most false statement of the year 2004.

Also, I fear that a "Saab" based on Chevrolet Trail-Blazer will be the beginning of the end for Saab as we know it..

And of course with an endless war in Viet Nam---ooopps, I mean Iraq, the petroleum price will continue to escalate. And the barge-mobile(truck based SUVs) fad will be over.

That and the nice low-end torque of a turbo diesel (an in-line 6 on top of it). Who would ever want that in a truck. VW seems to have the balls to sell a diesel Tuareg here.

Europe looks upon diesels from a completly different angle. Nowday diesels have much lower exhaust emissions, they are side by side with petrol engines regarding power, much stronger in low-end torque, very quite, especialy those with more than 4 cylinders... not to mention consumption and the price of diesel fuel. Who would want petrol BMW X5 with such nice 4 litre diesel, and same goes for Tuareg, Merc G and M series and many more. In fact, take a look at some of the European dealers, you'll find some diesel versions more expensive than petrol one, and there is a good reason for that.

I agree, I just spent over a month in Italy, and 9 out of 10 vehicles (be it a car or SUV) is diesel. Seeing the little D on the back of 5 series BMW's and X3/5's. And they might not be able to accelerate as fast, but they still move.

The US site is showing a 5.3 liter V8 as the standard powerplant.

Would the "tuner" crowd be interested in a twin-turbo V8 97X??
