Default The '-' button unmasked at last!

I have been looking through the SAAB AIC (Accessories Installation Calaogue) and found part number 12 787 159

This is a wiring harness for spotlights that is controlled by the - button on the sid control unit.

If someone can host the pdf file, let me know and will email it to you.

Someone found that a year ago. It's an option, so they can be converted into police cars.

These are just for auxiliary driving lights, not specific to the police.

About 18 months ago, we found a reference to the - button controlling auxiliary lights, but I hadn't seen any part number of a kit that can be bought until today.

For those who are running external amps, it could be used to switch the amps on and off.

Awesome find gj!
So I gather that it's some fancy power switch. That would come in handy for alot of us looking for power switching alternatives.

All I need now are some rollers!

If I'm reading this correctly we have all we need to make it a fancy switch already. Section "342". All we need to do is add a standard automotive relay and fuse and you're done. I'll check in to this more over the weekend.

Thumbs up

Man...I was all set to give you all good news that I had this activated.
I don't want to pay $90 for any of the 3 local dealers to activate it.

I got the kit (only through PFS, local dealers couldn't find it), and prepared to install it only to find...the relay & fuse were already in my car!!!
If you don't need the harness, you don't need to buy the kit.

The only reason you need the harness is for the connector. Interesting note though, the harness uses only 1 out of 4 pins. The connector in the car has 4 pins present, so what are the other 3 for?

Any ideas?

Maybe it's for a feedback to the relay. Now we can put the knightrider scanner on the front of our cars.

Old thread resurrected...

Viscouse,

Is this harness already present in the car?
Can you point me in the direction of the relay?

Thanks.

Good luck with this thing. It's been my bane for awhile now.
First go here: http://www.mrandmrs-g.net/saabfaq.htm and you can d/l the instructions for the kit. That will give you a better idea what the whole deal is.
Activation is supposed to involve a Tech II change to enable the button, and you will need a relay & fuse.

The plug where the harness conencts to is on the left side, tucked in between the engine fuse box & the left fender. It is a large-gage, 4 position black connector.

You said above that the relay and fuse were already in your car. Is that right?

If I only need two wires I can probably make something in lieu of a "real" wiring harness.

Correction:
You said one pin is used, the other three being unused.
So I need one wire plus ground.

They are in the engine bay main fuse box.
Relay R5 - 12 V 20 A
Fuse F24 - 10 A

The "Pre Acc" power outlet is between the fuse box and the fender and has a dummy connector in place.

According to the schematic in the spotlights instructions, the R5 relay is pre-configured to route +30 V, assuming I read the schematic correctly. So I would need a 30 V relay to switch the XID power wire.

I remember now that the audio amps also run on 30 V. So there must be at least two power buses throughout this car-- 12 V and 30 V.

I just tested my "-" button, looks like it's not enabled. I found R5 and F26 installed in the underhood fuse box. I guess I need to ask my dealer to enable it for me.

I'm gonna call today and see what they say.

I think it's F24, BTW. At least that's what it says in the spotlights instruction guide.
