I just bought a new-to-me 93 Saab 900s. Of course there is no manual. I can figure out all of the dashboard except for the light system at the top of the left-hand side. There are 3 configurations for the lights, and I can't for the life of me figure out the difference of each setting. Please help?

The first position is everything off. The second position is the daytime lights and the fogs lights (if your car has them and you have the button pushed). And the third position is for the headlights. If you keep it in the 3rd position the lights will turn off when the car is turned off but if its in the 2nd position they will stay on even after the ignition is turned of so keep that in mind.
And welcome to Saabcentral by the way. |

presume you mean the rotary control knob between the air vent and instrument binnacle. In right hand drive cars, all the way to the left(approx 10 o'clock) is all lights off, vertical (12 o'clock) is side lights/ day light running lights, and all the way to the right (2 o'clock) is headlights on. Then you just use your indicator/cruise control (in the uk anyway) stalk to toggle between full beam and dipped beam headlights.
Hope this helps G |

Welcome to SC. We have quite a few Ontario members here, including me! Only one small likely difference between what has been said and your car is that I think that by 93 daytime running lights were manditory on Canadian cars (so the off position might not be off) and I wonder if that is why you see no difference. Any other newer C900 owners from Canada confirm this?

Thank you for the welcomes. This is a great site. It must be that the daytime running lights are always on, because they don't switch off no matter what setting I have them on. At least now I don't feel like a moron! Thanks so much.

I have a '93 900 owner's manual...
On a DRL model in Canada: the "O" position is DRL only. The =D= park lamp position is DRL only. The D= headlamp position is headlamps (low beam + parking lights), pulling the turn signal stalk towards you will switch from main / dipped beam. |

c'mon jetman, you've been right a few times . . . it's just that nobody remembers when
I can confirm this too - basically the only difference between the settings is what the high-beam selector does; at 10 and 12 it 'flashes' the highbeams but doesn't activate them, at 2 o'clock it activates the high-beams and they stay on. IIRC. Welcome to SC, aleks. |

And if you want it the American way,- off is off:
Just remove the daytime light relay you find in the main fusebox. |
