Default Saab 9-3 Convertible Sets Record Sales Pace

The new Saab 9-3 Convertible is celebrating its first year of production with record sales that confirm Saab's prominent position in Europe's premium soft-top segment.

In a number of European markets it is now a best-seller and by year-end it is expected to achieve a record Saab global sales volume of almost 20,000 units a year. Sales have been accelerating since its launch in September last year, the 9-3 Convertible gaining volume while sales of its main four-seater convertible rivals are in decline.

So far this year (Jan-Aug), European sales are almost 130% ahead of last year's volume, achieving an all-time high for Saab in the United Kingdom (3,256 units), as well as Ireland, Spain, Sweden, France, Switzerland, Belgium, Portugal, Greece and Norway. In Holland, Belgium, Norway and Sweden the new 9-3 Convertible is the best seller in its segment.

Since launching its first convertible almost 20 years ago, Saab has played a major role in advancing the popularity of open-top cars as a practical, all-year-round means of transport. The latest model is now giving the brand an unprecedented level of success.

"Customers are attracted by the 9-3 Convertible's premium quality, its sporty styling and generous equipment levels," says Jan-Ĺke Jonsson, Saab's Vice President, Sales and Marketing. "Its success reinforces Saab's leading role in the premium convertible segment and also highlights the core values of our brand."

The 9-3 Convertible is assembled by Magna Steyr in a dedicated facility in Graz, Austria. It is offered with a choice of 150, 175 or 210 bhp, 2.0-liter turbo gasoline engines and in three specifications, Linear, Vector and Aero. It has achieved a maximum five-star EuroNCAP crash safety rating and features a number of class benchmarks, including the fastest-acting soft-top in its segment, automatically expanding soft-top trunk storage and a unique tonneau cover movement.

With record sales in 2003 of just over 1900 units in Canada, it is suprising how many new verts I am seeing!

It's great! 8)
