Default How to adjust timing on 900 turbo SPG?

I need to adjust the timing on my 900. It's a 1988 SPG. I have a timing light, but can't seem to find the mark on the crank gear. I also tried this one spot at the front of the engine where this small square plastic cover came off, but saw nothing there, either. (btw, I've since lost that little square piece ops: )

I've looked all over, and can't find a thing on how to adjust the timing on a 900. I even searched this board (so sorry if this has already been covered ad nauseum).

If anyone has some step by step instructions, or can even steer me in the right direction, I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

If you are going to get any manual for this car it should be the Bentley

Thanks.

From reading through those links, I'm figuring that the proper setting for all Turbo 16v Saabs is -16, or "16degrees before top dead center." That I understand.

Also, it's measured through that little hole in the front...I get that too. Except I can't see anything, so it's likely rusted over. What can I expect to see when cleaning? There will be a raised line at TDC, and there should also be degree markings all along the flywheel, is that right?

Also...last time I checked the peephole, I ended up losing the plastic cover for it into my engine bay, gone forever. Does it matter if that hole stays open?

Thanks again, everyone.

The 900 has major timing marks every 5 and minor marks every degree on the flywheel, starting at TDC and running to atleast 20.

Easiest way to time the car is to use a timing gun with selectable advance, set this to 16 and time on the TDC mark which is the easiest to see as there are no markings to one side of it.

If you are having real troubles seeing the timing marks, remove the plastic clutch cover and mark the 0 and 16 positions with some white paint. This will show up really well with the timing light.
